My boat has been on its winter mooring since the day I set off for Indonesia; 12 January. The mooring is until the end of March.
Imagine my surprise when I received the standard "your boat has been spotted in the same general area for more than 14 days" etc. etc.
I sent an email to the person mentioned on the email an to her credit she replied almost immediately with her apologies; it had been a mistake; the matter has been removed from their records. All well and good, but would anyone care to speculate why several sightings over the past 2 months didn't generate a 'naughty letter', whereas the most recent one did?

This whole system they use is now in meltdown. In my view, it's time it was sorted. Denise Yelland has constantly supported the use of this system and should perhaps now be sacked. It's crap, and has been from day one. Three years down the line, and its still crap. What was once a leisure based stress free pastime, now becomes a constant harassment based one. It's ridiculous and unnecessary. I'm considering a petition on the issue.

The same thing has happened to three boats with winter moorings here this week. I wonder if they have a winter/summer mode on the system and some one has put it into summer mode already.

maybe the best tactic is, if you have a valid mooring arrangement, to let the process go nearly all the way and then draw their attention to the mooring agreement.
why should you waste your time doing their administration for them?
It is probably valid to have a standard form letter reply including a statement that you are your own legal representative and you will charge costs, at the rate of ÂŁX per hour for your time, plus ÂŁY for every message letter or email you have had to generate in reply to their enquiries.
they would soon get the message and pull their socks up if several people did this in unambiguous cases that never need to get to court.

I have a suspicion that they know the boats that grossly overstay and therefore these are the boats they wish to monitor, but if they were only to monitor those boats the owners could claim discrimination and harassment as part of their 'CRT's unreasonable behaviour' defence. So they 'monitor' everybody, which also explains why they are happy to delete sightings for the good boats without to asking for any firm evidence that you did not overstay. Therefore the system is giving CRT what they need to manage the persistent overstay boats. System improvement would cost a lot of money and would be of little benefit to CRT, though it may reduce the stress levels of compliant boaters. So I doubt there will be any change soon.
We could lobby for system improvements as suggested above, and if we are successful and CRT felt forced to invest in a better system, which may also cost more to operate, then as there is no money tree where will the money come from??? They will be forced to take it from the maintenance budget.
So be careful what you wish for.

Where do you get the idea they have no money?

And just to add.... if the O/P didntnt recognise the position his boat had been spotted at, i.e. It had been stolen, how many of you drama queens would of been on here saying 'well done CRT' ?

"So they 'monitor' everybody, which also explains why they are happy to delete sightings for the good boats without to asking for any firm evidence that you did not overstay." Paint everybody with the 'Guilty Brush' until they prove they aren't. British Justice at its best. Isn't this sort of thing illegal and against 'Human Rights'? Looks very much like what you are doing with the Germans

Looks very much like what you are doing with the Germans Not at all. The Germans have not paid, and none of them have any intention of doing so. They know what their parents and grandparents did, and they are still living off the money from the gold extracted from Jews' teeth and the paintings stolen from the Jews. Grabbing the deckchairs first, and driving big fancy cars, is not showing regret. In my opinion. We will have to agree to disagree, I'm afraid. I shan't be changing my attitude towards wanton cruelty and sick medical experiments, and throwing live babies onto the pile of bodies already in the gas chambers anytime soon. Wow... Nazi attrociaties.... that's a bit of a veere off track from CRT sending an email

Where do you get the idea they have no money? Funny how ÂŁ188,000 salary for the managing director can be found at the drop of a hat, eh? That's just his base pay package, he actually gets a lot more when you include related benefits.

Seems fitting to me I know how right (read wrong of course) you are, all the Germans know what their parents and grandparents did, and they are all still living off the money from the gold extracted from Jews' teeth and the paintings stolen from the Jews. They've all been Grabbing the deckchairs first, and are all driving big fancy cars, is not showing regret. In my opinion.
It's clear to me that you've never been to Germany, and that you don't know anything about the Germans in general, writing all this crap.
We will have to agree to disagree, I'm afraid. I shan't be changing my attitude towards wanton cruelty and sick medical experiments, and throwing live babies onto the pile of bodies already in the gas chambers anytime soon.
Wouldn't it be better if we hang all these bloody Germans ? They must be all at least as bad as their parents and grand parents, and they better pay now.
While you're at it, and to hate some more people all over the place because of what their ancesters did, here's some interesting history for you to read :

It's good that not everybody is as narrowminded as you are, you sound like a very bitter man.
