Had a problem losing coolant, but couldn't initially track down from where.
Eventually realised that I'm blowing water out of the exhaust.
Just had it checked out, and it's the water cooled exhaust manifold which needs replacing.
Beta bv1903 engine and the replacement part is around £750.
When we bought the boat 13 years ago Paul Mudie told us what boat stood for.........bless him he was right.

Rog I am sure that there are loads of people who don't fully appreciate how much boating costs as a leisure pursuit or a mode of living. Until you have owned one I don't think it can be appreciated. The problem is compounded of course if you can't or won't do some things yourself. Some marine related trades put your average car garage to shame sometimes.

Chatting t'other day,
"Broke throttle cable, took it into a n other yard and they fixed it.... Wanker stood on my exhaust while fixing it and sent me on my way without telling me. Cost of cable fix. £80. Cost of exhaust?"
Personally I have to be absolutely screwed to let another pair of hands near my home

Trouble with manifolds is that they are normally corroded before perforating, making repair (welding or stitching) difficult and probably only a short term fix. Sometimes you have to just open your wallet and repeat "Help yourself".

It's a 24 year old engine, and (touch wood) the first big expence.
To be honest, I feared worse.
Sometimes you just have to smile.
After all you can't take it with you.

An off the wall thought
It seems that the BSS is perfectly happy with exhaust manifolds contains within a glass fibre bag so think about the possibility of fitting a standard Kubota exhaust manifold and putting it in a bag. Hopefully there will be a plant scrapyard somewhere that sells these things second hand.
You would need to arrange and plumb an expansion tank and do a little re-piping.

Find a plain manifold it won't make much difference, a used one will be in the 50 quid region.

A Kubota manifold will do the job, just make sure it's well wrapped with exhaust tape. If it were me I'd want the water-cooled manifold but if money is tight it would get you out of a hole. I'm no fan of dry exhausts though, proper boats have wet exhaust to stop them sounding like a delivery van Due to the obscene costs for a manifold I made one for a D722, sadly I haven't the time at the moment to do another else I'd have been only too pleased to offer

Very kind thoughts, thank you. I'm very fortunate, and very grateful that I have the money. I was just gobsmacked at the price. Beta know how to stay in profit Rog

Might be worth checking with a Nanni agent. Nanni marinise Kubota. I bet it will be more being French.
