Don't you have proper school meals any more in Britain? How about free school meals for the poorer students - have those gone too? "My daughter's school bang on about healthy packed lunches but still sell things like iced buns and sausage rolls in the tuck shop at break time. Hypocrites!" "Once upon a time schools cooked on site and the food was very good too,i think the 'parents' giving their child this kind of muck were probably fed the same rubbish by their parents OR they can't be bothered and make the effort to feed their offspring healthy nutritious packed lunches" "As much as I agree that children do need a decent meal for lunch and that most parents couldn't spell nutrition let alone make sure that their children get the right nutrition. I also can't help but think how creepy it is that teachers are going through children lunch boxes. I also want to know what happens when they take away un-healthy food from the children (we have heard of this from other stories) are the parents refunded the price or have the item returned? If not, that is theft!" Food for thought... www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4350188/Teacher-finds-child-sent-school-cold-McDonald-s.html

Years 1 and 2 get free school meals and I guess anyone on benefits get them throughout school too.
My daughter seems to enjoy hers. They do get some half decent meals.
The nipper used to have school meals but he prefers packed lunch and true to alternate corned beef sandwiches with salmon one's. When we can get it cheap.

This is my recollection too, I cant recall any of the schools I went to serving 'proper school meals' A cold day old Maccy D's would have been an improvement on some of the stuff we used to be forced to eat.

We (my mates and I) thought the food served at Passmores Comprehensive in Harlow was pretty good, and we often asked for second helpings. You see, I'm not negative about everything! Although once I did find a 4-inch rusty nail under my rectangular-shaped piece of steak pie (true).

I've worked in a variety of schools, it's rare to see thrice boiled cabbage, it's usually healthy options. Custard still has lumps, mind you.

I've just been told by the little en that she enjoyed salmon goujons today and tomorrow has mild Mexican beef chilli.
When her brother was in the same year we had to pay but it was only £1.75 a day.

Our eldest at Junior school get a choice of three items on the menu everyday which is cooked at the school. She can go online the night before and choose her dinner for the next day but she normally waits till she's at school and clicks her choice on the school PC. The school webiste also gives the parents the recipies for the meals so they can replicate their kids favourites.
