Times come to modify my Traditional gear change mechanism shaft which is a tad fragile, replacing the rather thin piece of rod to something a bit more substantial, alloy bar or stainless tube etc. The actual mechanism is great its just the bar from roof to gearbox as pics
Has anyone any suggestions or pictures of a setup I could get some ideas from?

Morning Andy.
I take it the bit you are most concerned about is the (or what appears to be from the photo) curved section at the bottom. I would have thought the skinny rod was quite enough for straight line push/pull but would agree not ideal for a curve.
Is it possible to use the thin rod to deliver the movement in a straight line and then use (pauses to scratch brain as to what to call the thingumybob) ...... a centrally pivoted bar with a clevis pin fitting on each end, to redirect the vertical line to over the actuator and dropping down from that with skinny rod again. with luck you might be able to mount it on a couple of the bolts on these inspection plates ... It does add two extra joins and a pivot point but it avoids that rather inelegant curve.
Incidentally that's a good idea with the battery movement sensor light

Hi John, thanks for the heads up, good idea!! I was thinking of maybe a stainless bar approx. 10mm with rose-joints or alloy bar in sort of H section mounted with a clevis setup top n bottom, It currently has a very slight bend in the bar but I think I can get a straight drop with a bit of modification. Few more clearer pics..

Yes that makes it a lot clearer ....... it looks much more of an offset in the first series of pictures. Could you get enough horizontal movement so as to get a straight line by kinking the top actuator ? that looks to be a fairly sturdy bar so I wouldn't think there would be any flex in it.

I could modify the top actuator to get a straight drop fairly easily...probably be a good start!!

Prm hydraulic boxes don't need much force. I had a 160 box with a trad linkage and it was set up with bell cranks. Not a push pull to be fair it was an up down lever. Similar principle in the sense of changing direction of pull.
