I do wish people were a bit more careful with fuel on the waterways. I think it was a couple of years back, the wife and I were heading to Ely on the Great Ouse, when about a mile out from Ely we started to smell diesel quite strongly and could see that the whole width of the river was covered. This persisted right into Ely to Cathedral Marina where they have fuel. Never did here anything about it, but someone obviously got a bit over enthusiastic on the diesel pump.

I reported a big spill of diesel at Upwell Staithe to Tina at Stanground Lock and Maureen at Marmonts Priory, I hadn't got any other MLC contact numbers to hand so it seemed the best course of action - I made sure we were through Marmonts Priory Lock first though! Didn't fancy being stuck in a pollution incident. It stretched all the way to the approach to Marmonts - Whoever did it had to have known the mess they had caused
