Took delivery today of a new washing machine, they knew it was to go on a boat , driver rang saying he was on his way to the MARINA, I said ring when he arrived a I'd direct him to my BOAT. They trollied the machine upto the forward well deck and proceeded to leave the machine there, declaring it was too dangerous.(the gunwhale is level with the quayhead) I had to call them a pair of wimps saying that I in my 70s had got the old machine, out aided by a mate and 2 strapping young chaps could surely put the new one in This seemed to spur them on and in went the new one . Dunno what youngsters use for spines and balls these days. Phil

Morning Phil,
When I bought my fridge freezer, I bought it from a smallish outfit with I think 4 local branches. (my dishwasher and tumble drier both came from there, both several years ago) Each time the delivery was by their van and team. Excellent !! They have to negotiate several hundred feet of narrow wooden walkways, a 2' lift to the deck, a bit of a wiggle to get through the wheelhouse door and down a fairly steep stairway to kitchen area. .......... and the fridge freezer only just fits !!!
It wasn't the same team each time but the ones that came with the fridge freezer, knew all about the Sabina and the boatyard but they said they had been told it was not as bad as some of the deliveries they make to some blocks of flats.
I wonder Phil, if it's not so much youngsters, as a difference in attitude between guys working for a big company and a small one.
(incidentally their prices compare fairly well with the big outfits. They were chosen the first time because they were able to deliver the next day and I saw no reason to go anywhere else for the other things)

Don't get me started on delivery wimps....here at 'Horror House' I've had boxes of slatted bed frames plus mattress left outside..'Elf n Safety' declares hunking great he men cannot even bring through the front door let alone up the stairs....the wardrobe from a different firm...a put together yourself job... I sent back when they refused to even attempt the stairs....they aren't that bad.
I struggled solo to get mattress up the stairs and unpacked the other to take up in manageable bits....if me a nearly..NB ever so nearly...60 year old can lug so can they...fortunately I've finished buying furniture though i may need to replace wardrobe as its possible i have messed up constructing it...ended up buying Ikea delight

I got a full size washing machine out of the boat by myself no trouble.
I had a fairly heavy item delivered to the mooring once. The bloke said "is there a lift?" I said "its a boat" they carried it to the pontoon and asked "which floor is it" I said "its a boat".
To be fair the mooring has flats close to it.

That would be impossible to achieve given the way my boat is moored and it's location, my boat is in no way tender and I have had to arrange a platform in the well for my partially sighted wife who has ( amongst other things)lymphoedema and needs a safe secure way in and out of the boat. I have to say the English member of the delivery team seemed ready to give it a go but the Eastern European member was very vociferous and really got the hump. I've always been of the opinion that in any situation like this, you have a go, it was obvious a machine had been taken out (by me and a mate) so the task was not impossible. I've been in the same situation my self on more than one occasion when helping out delivering furniture, once 2 of us had to carry a 4 seater leather sofa OVER our heads with a foot of snow underfoot. Nah, sorry, idle wimps who only want to do the minimum. Phil

I've just had a washing machine delivered to my apartment, purchased from AO. But the delivery was done by a subcontractor. All the info about steps and lifts was given to AO but they did not pass it on to the subcontractor so it not fair to blame them. If the vendor agrees to deliver to a boat, in a marina, yourcomplaint is with the vendor, not the delivery company.

If the vendoagrees to deliver to a boat, in a marina, yourcomplaint is with the vendor, not the delivery company. Not true, my complaint was with the delivery crew, I had 2 phone calls from them and in each I mentioned MARINA which to anybody would indicate one thing......boats. Again during each call I said I would show them where my boat was moored, I repeat BOAT. Having been involved in delivering furniture we accepted that not every delivery was going to be straight forward and easy. On more than one occasion we had to dismantle triple wardrobes to get them in and rebuild once in the room ,we took doors of and then rehung them and once even removed the door frame . The odd awkward delivery is part and parcel of the job I'm afraid Phil

On the delivery I mentioned earlier (a sofa bed) the delivery men (2 blokes) did not seem to compute that it was a boat despite me saying it twice. Its entirely possible that "marina" does not mean "boat" to everyone.
It might just be the name of one of the ladies in Last of the summer wine. Nothing to do with boats at all.

I was waiting for some LED lights to be delivered. As a bit of a clue my address has Pontoon & Marina in there...
Anyway a week after they failed to show up, I contacted the vendor (Bedazzled), who after getting in touch with the delivery company, Bedazzled got in their car & & drove to me with my lights.
Turns out the delivery company didnt even try to get here, apparently the satnav was pointing to the middle of a lake which is obviously wrong (especially when there is Pontoon & Marina in the address) so instead of coming here he marked it as unknown address & they didnt try again

Yes, they make you weep, our old address was The Post Office 19 Lower St and more than once we had people claiming they couldn't find it despite the Huge sign outside that said Post Office and the fact it was between 17 and 21 Phil

More than once I've watched a courier arrive, sit in van writing out a card then post it without even knocking. At this point I answer the door obviously. Why do they do that? Is it the driver keeping his round a bit busier?
