As the weather's been gorgeous I've spent the weekend in the engine bay replacing all our battery and inverter cables with brand new 95mm2 marine (tinned) cable. I used my cheap (Chinese off eBay) hydraulic crimper and it worked a treat, all sealed with adhesive lined shrink tubing. The old inverter cables were made up of 3 lengths of 35mm2 to get the cross sectional area but we're done when I was destitute and used cable I found at work but were bulky and unwieldy. The original battery interconnects were 40mm2, but my understanding now is they should match the inverter cable so this is what I've done. Tidied up and re-routed a lot of the other cabling and re-did any terminals that looked sub-standard so hopefully the system should be more efficient when we go out for 6 days over Easter. Next major job is fitting the hospital silencer I made which will be soon, but that's for another threadπ

you're both very lucky - now that good weather is here, I seem to be spending all my time removing the solar panels... sanding down and priming the roof and repeating the process on the next non-raining day I'm not at work.
SO far, I've got 5 coats of primer on and the next time I take off the panels, will be applying undercoat - dull dull dull.
On the plus side, when they ARE connected they're keeping the batteries at 100% every time I arrive at the boat - only going down to about 80 % now with a nights use and a load of washing!... FAB

FAB It will be worth it, we spent last spring/summer painting our Narrowboat and it was a bloody hard slog, but it was very much worth it. Keep the faith..π
