Hot feed fitting removed and I'm syphoning out into the shower tray which should get most of it out then pump the last bit. Not ideal as now I have the dodgy hot out fitting to deal with but at least that's accessable.

Hmmm. Rubber gasket. Caused by graunching it up too tight. Perhaps in an effort to stop a leak (which I do hope doesn't turn out to be a cracked cylinder).

The paloma in my mum's narrowboat was hateful - hot/cold hot/cold as the pump pressure fluctuated. They had a SR3 so no option on the hot water front.

There will be a way I'm sure, providing I start with the right kit.

Well that's done, refilled and hopefully heating up. New fittings in the top will make it easier to empty if there's a next time.
Thanks for reading and for your suggestions.

Our Paloma serves the shower no problem, constant pressure. We do have an accumulator, don't know if that makes a difference, maintaining constant pressure.

I found that the trick with that set up was to have a cold tap running at the same time as the shower, on just enough to keep the pump running constantly.

Bit late to this but if you have some Fernox LS_X, a goodly amount on the male side of the element thread should help seal it.
Might even be OK to pressurise before the Fernox has set if there's an O ring to back it up until then.

Everything is groovy, I still have a dry cabin bilge. Yee-ha!
But the pump pressure switch is a bit too random and I have to set it too low to take into account the odd time it over pressures. Also the pump is very noisy by my judgement. It might be improved with some flexi pipe each side rather than coupling straight to rigid plastic 15mm, but I'm thinking that won't make enough improvement.
I was wondering if I could sort out both with a new pump. Any recommendations for a quiet one?
