Engine cut out , could not restart , change fuel filters " primary messy second looked ok " changed fuel pump , bled system at two points as taught bt canal river rescue and fuel seems to appear clear running , after bleeding engine will run maybe one minute if revs up slightly but die with no revs , no bleeding and left for an hour it may start but run just for a moments but it does start ,water level ok battery new "starter ", later today going to drain fuel tank and try new fuel after trimming rubber fuel pipes and new jubilee clips in case of air getting sucked in , any hints that may enlighten me further , also other boater advised me to crack the injectors which I did and each one sprays a mist of fuel out , got to go out for morning so cant answer any questions till later thanks in advance for any hints in advance .alex

It does sound like a fuel problem or lack of fuel as it where. But you seem to have done the right things for this and no joy, so I don't know what to suggest. But thought I'd post so you didn't think everyone is ignoring you.

You seem to have eliminated fuel problems. How about a blocked air filter or faulty stop solenoid relay?

Thanks for replies , I did put a new air filter in when changed the fuel filters , have talked to a few old hands round local and general thought is I should check for air getting into the fuel system , so going to check into that , I have also put a good dose of marine 16 into the fuel tank , canal and river rescue have always been my falback but as ill health has kept me from any extensive cruising I let my membership lapse , I don't know much at all about solenoid relay so if I cant solve me self I will reinstate with crr and finally get out cruising again . thanks again

It was my fuel pump when mine did the same lack of filter before it was the real issue

I think we have had cases where Betas with the diaphragm type fuel priming have had the diaphragm assembly leaking air into the system.
I have also had those "disc" type mechanical lift pumps cause problems with muck in the valves. They are easy to strip to get at the valves (6 screws) but it is VITAL that you mark all three parts of the pump so you reassemble it correctly. The divider on the inner face of the cover must align with the gasket and be it the correct position relative to the rest of the pump.

Thanks lads , today on return to boat I tightened every jubilee clip on the fuel lines and indeed some may have required a turn or half a turn with the final clip completely loose and spinning on the pipe , no effect problem was still there , backtracked everything I had done and the only thing I had not actually seen with my own eyes was the groove that the top seal fitted into , I removed the new seal and used a mirror to inspect that groove , stuck in the groove was what I can only think was a sliver of the old rubber seal , stuck so needed to give it a little scrape with a screwdriver to remove it ,that gone refitted the seal ,bled the engine and it started and stayed started , sweet but could not believe it , that groove without a mirror to check it out would require standing on your head in the bilge to see it , lesson learned for future filter changes .edit to add- air in lines was the problem

All the Barrus shires I have seen, have had electric fuel pumps, ok they are about 10 years old but I did think it was the norm but then again I could easily be wrong

Glad you have it sorted does it have a filter before the fuel pump? I fitted a fuel guard because of blockages in the pump I bought the kit to fit one last time the pump broke because it got blocked but river canal rescue never had replacement pump with him and he put a sqeeze bubble in its place and advised not to bother replacing pump unless I intended to go on rivers , thought I would fit the new filter set up next service and could not find the kit , I moved house but will no doubt come across it in the most unlikely of places

I ran for 6 months without one after it blocked the second time siphon does work unless engine is asking for loads of fuel and tank is getting empty
