Good idea or not? From my personal point of view, means I'll be able to go on the piss and not have the inconvenience of being stood in a queue waiting for a taxi home, plus the pounds & pounds embezzalled from me whilst sizzled by said taxidrivers will soon pay for my own personal driverless vehicle. Only downside I can see is the horror caused if a passenger died during their journey to see family or friends, imagine a corpse arriving in its own vehicle suddenly turning up on your doorstep.. Would be like a present from Hell!! The Juries out for me!! www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/04/24/government-backs-driverless-car-trials-london/

I am for them, they are far further on than most people think and for me the quicker the better. I have seen some without steering wheels so that as a taxi they would hold more people. I think the insurance industry will force them upon us, but as I said for me as an electric driverless car they cant come quick enough

I think that when the technology has been perfected, the whole concept of personal car ownership will disappear, there being little point in owning something which spends 95% of the time being unused and taking up space. It will happen, trillions are being spent on development, I imagine trucks will be among the first vehicles to be fully autonomous.

I would have thought if the car was clever enough to drive itself it would be clever enough to work out if the passenger had a heartbeat.
Maybe it could be programmed to automatically deliver you to the funeral parlour or whatever in the event of death.
What intrigues me is that this type of thing will eventually make humans obsolete and I reckon that will lead to all sorts of bad shit happening.

But I like driving! e.g. Recently drove from Stranraer to Whithorn along the coast, didn't meet a car, sun setting behind us, pootling along at a fair lick (if you know what I mean). Another fav road Wrynose and Hardknott Passes, from Langdale to Ravenglass. I saw a renault twizzy going over there, cool eleccy car, 2 seater. Last week was working in Higher Bentham, drove home via the road to Slaidburn, a tarmacced goat track, like hardknott but not as steep.
wandering slightly, as children in the back of a Morris 8 going through the Langdales we were informed that we had just passed the road to Wrynose Bottom, oh how we laughed! (Rhino's for the slow of humour).
So anyone got a better road than Hardnott and Wrynose passes?

I lived in East Sussex when I was a kid. We sometimes went over the river Uck. Occasionally someone had added a letter at the beginning.
The other one was Shilbottle which I think was near Alnmouth in Northumberland where we occasionally went on horrorday.

The idea is phenomenal, but I wouldn't trust them on single track country roads in this country. Unfortunately recently, a driverless car has already been involved in an accident in Tempe Arizona. It transpires the car wasn't at fault, it was down to another road user performing an illegal maneuver, which the driverless car's computer couldn't comprehend. Regardless, it still resulted in a crash. Perhaps the crash could have been avoided if it were two humans driving; or, if two computers were driving. LINK

Years ago Chris Tarrant had a regular slot in Capital Radio where he had a spot for unusual or rude place names, Little Egypt and Christmas Common spring to mind as does Piss Hill, just a few of the names offer up. Phil
