That's what I have. It plugs in in the engine room. That feeds a fused switch in the bedroom, for convenience I guess.
Is this BSS compliant? As it's fused in the plug, could I replace the fused switch with a light? I might remember to turn it off then.

The BSS is pretty vague on AC stuff. If it were a house you'd expect to have a fused outlet somewhere near the immersion heater. Why not replace the fused switch with a fused switch with built-in light?

Why not put one of those timer thingys in. Then you can ignore it and concentrate on more important things like Death!

Why not replace the fused switch with a fused switch with built-in light? This was the question, do I still need that fuse? Gambling that the answer would be no, I just bought a switch with built in red light.

Ah, but the plug is in the engine room and out of sight.

Thinking about it, the fused outlet in a house is probably connected to a 32A ring main hence the need for an additional fuse, but in your case the requirement is met by the fused plug. Presuming the switch is adequately rated for the current.

All done plus flush mounted it and a double socket that some tasteless lazy git had mounted on fat back boxes (to save making a bigger hole), overlapping a raised panel border (for no practical reason).

Fused switched spur please. That's what I had, halfway along a plug in cable.

Fused switched spur please. That's what he has now, it's just that the fuse is further upstream from the switch.
