Was going to suggest trying to get on one of the occasional tours of the sewers, but don't think it's something you would enjoy. on a similar vein ...... I have on my "must do" list, a visit to Crossness sewage pumping station www.crossness.org.uk/

We went to Greenwich last time we were down there.
Seeing Nelson's tunic was a highlight for me, complete with damage at the epaulette from the sniper.
Nelson was a giant, and my hero, but he took a very small jacket size.

In '99/'00 I had a few paid for jollies to the dome, organising for the MacDonalds ”out town story” performance for Rochdale. On one of the occasions I got the ferry back up to Waterloo, great, sat on the open top deck. A different perspective of London. Same in Liverpool, book the round trip on the ferry.

Look for anywhere with lots of American, Japanese and Germans queueing up to get in. And don't go there.

Foxy. I always get of the underground at Westminster and go have a wonder round the architecture is amazing.
Both the free museums are always worth a look..
We use the underground. Using a contactless card like an oyster it works put really cheap.

I must confess that although it would only take me an hour from door to door, I have never visited the Tower since I was a child. The enormous queues of tourists waiting to get in puts it in the "not on your nelly" bracket as far as I'm concerned ...... I'm allergic to crowds I always had you up north. Don't know why. I suppose everyone is north of us in Southampton.

I've never done London dungeons. But did enjoy the London bridge experience. With a bogoff off course.
Don't forget if you get a train or underground (i think) ticket you get bog off at hundreds of attractions

Some brilliant ideas, thank you all. The free stuff is always good, but being from Yorkshire, we're on top of this Has anyone visited the Tower? Is it worth the expense? Being a Hockney fan, I intend to visit Tait Britain to view his 80th birthday collection, even though you have to pay. The Clipper is great, and the only way I'll be doing the tidal Thames too. My Mum had ugly kids, not stupid ones Rog The tower is worth the money in my view, but only the once. I'm on me way down there again. We are going onto the lea for a week or two before heading for the k&a.

My Mum had ugly kids, not stupid ones Rog I enjoyed the Tower but we missed the Crown Jewels as Her Maj had them out on loan (state opening of parliament). We particularly enjoyed the tour provided by one of the Beefeaters who ripped it out of the Americans and the French on the tour with us. Luckily they didn't take it too much to heart, but he was very funny.

8. Go and visit each and every main railway station, just to see what they look like. St Pancras station is my favourite. Also has a reasonable pub inside, very quiet place in fantastic surroundings away from the hubbub of the area - very dog friendly too, last two visits the mutt got treated to a real complimentary sausage (no processed biccies in sight).

Seconded, St. Pancras is an architectural gem of a structure.
