I usually go home from where ever we are to vote. But as soon as the election was announced this time, I took action to arrange postal voting. Up there for thinking, down there for dancing However, having submitted application forms, I discovered that, whilst I can post my ballot paper from anywhere, I'll still have to go home to get it. Might just as well go home and vote on polling day doh! Rog

Or you could get someone to post it to you Poste Restante to a convenient Post Office.

I dont trust postal voting. I want to see my little folded slip go in that ballot box.

That's going to have to be the plan Mr Stabby, although I dislike putting others out.
I quite like going to vote, so I'd actually prefer to put my slip in the ballot box.
However the transport costs can be quite high, and I hoped the postal system would help.
Maybe one day, internet voting will be possible?
Rog
Stuff it on second thoughts, I like going to the polling booth really.

I don't personally think I can be arsed to spend £100+ on a train fare and endure a 7-8 hour round trip just to vote in person. I suppose I could get my girlfriend to post the postal voting form up to me but as my home address is in a safe Conservative seat anyway, my vote, whichever way I cast it, would be fairly pointless.

The outcome of the vote in my constituency is not in doubt, even at this stage.
But surely, that's not the point.
I reserve the right to vote, or spoil my paper, in actual fact, rather than in a fit of laziness.
Hope poste restante works, or it'll cost a fortune to exercise my prerogative (ooer missus)

Poste Restante has always worked whenever I've needed it, best to take some ID along, some ask for it, others don't. The person sending the item should put a return address on the rear of the envelope. I'm actually registered with my GP using the local Post Office as my home address.

Thanks for that. The tricky bit is timing the visit to my home after the ballot paper has arrived, so that they don't have to make repeated trips. I went home to vote at the referendum, and look what good that did me Rog

The problem with going home for me is that my home address is actually 15 miles closer to Paris than it is to where I'm moored up at the moment.

I had to go to the polling station for the first time in 7 years on Thursday, Mrs Gazza had tucked the envelopes in the letter rack and I'd been rather busy to remember to keep track of it.
Luckily you can vote in person with your postal vote if you miss the posting deadline. Just take it to your polling station and JD 👍

I'm puzzled by this because I've often had my postal vote sent to a different address from my home one. Surely that's a large part of the point of a postal vote? Or is it that you don't have a "proper" address in your vicinity and they won't do a Post Restante address?

I've only submitted the application a week ago.
The instructions indicated the ballot paper must be sent to my home address.
Maybe once I am an established postal voter this changes.
But my reading on the matter so far suggests not.
