I'm beginning to fear a conspiracy.
Jane heard a cuckoo on Sunday morning, THREE TIMES whilst running on the Ebury Way (old railway) out of Rickmansworth.
We walked that way in the afternoon, but not a peep!
Moved down to Denham now but no luck.
Tut.

Where the Frays River runs under just above the lock. Its a mini aqueduct immediately followed by a very deep lock. Its a great bit of engineering

Beautiful mooring above Denham Deep lock.
The bird song was terrific, but no cuckoo.
A definite conspiracy....I blame C&RT.

I did an emergency stop an hour ago. No passengers on board, and no cars behind me. Saved the life of one of these, which jumped out of the ditch and ran in front of me:

Lots of mink farms around here - for rich Russian women and other sluts who think it's cool and stylish to have these animals bred and gassed to death and have their skins ripped off, just so they can show their girlfriends that "their man loves them". I think farming animals for fur coats is barbaric in the 21st Century. I hope the one I saved has a happy life from now on - obviously escaped from such a concentration camp, the type of filthy death centre health inspectors never visit in fear of upsetting the farming community.

The problem is that ignorant well-wishing do-gooders have released them over here resulting in the large aggressive American beasts decimating broods of wildfowl and strongly contributing to the heavy decline of our native water vole. Shooting them helps to keep the numbers down but the campaign for their removal off UK waterways needs to be stepped up.

Mink are a pest, but otters were considered so at one point in time.
Around here the Otter hounds have become the Mink hounds - how the pack differentiate between otters and mink makes me wonder. Happy with people shooting mink, ponder on the benefit of Mink/Otter hounds but have learnt to keep my mouth firmly shut when talking to the locals.
Two years ago I saw my first ever Pine Martin, now that was a special moment.
