βAnd then all wars ended / Arms of every kind were outlawed and the masses gladly contributed them to giant foundries in which they were melted down and the metal poured back into the earth / The Pentagon was turned on its side and painted purple, yellow & green / All boundaries were dissolved / The slaughter of animals was forbidden / The whole of lower Manhattan became a meadow in which unfortunates from the Bowery were allowed to live out their fantasies in the sunshine and were cured People swam in the sparkling rivers under blue skies streaked only with incense pouring from the new factories / The energy from dismantled nuclear weapons provided free heat and light / World health was restored / An abundance of organic vegetables, fruits and grains was growing wild along the discarded highways / National flags were sewn together into brightly colored circus tents under which politicians were allowed to perform harmless theatrical games / The concept of work was forgottenβ

Remember this was recorded in the 60's before modern keyboards existed, it was also one of the first albums I bought, my daughter still has the vinyl π

The two songs I got from this thread which I really like are the crying at the discotheque which is a really good one for the kids and the German one with the corduroy trousers. De toten hosen. Hier kommt Alex. Proper Quality.
Great songs neither of which I had heard before.
And
I am a witless semi-moron and have nothing to add other than one of my favourite songs of all time which is this one
And

You do know what Die Toten Hosen means don't youπ
Literally translated dead trousers, refers to a man with erectile dysfunction,
It does have a wider cultural use, meaning 'uninteresting' or 'not worth bothering with'.

Not really music but one for yesterday's slightly silly penalty shootout.
Another one that my girls like but mainly because they really like me for some unknown reason and anything I like always seems to "work".
With them being among only half a dozen white kids in the school it's quite a funny song for me.
Tom Lehrer was one of mums favourites God rest her soul and I'm not religious at all.

Anyway
The girls asked me to play this. It has over 4 billion views on the advertising platform known as Google video/YouTube.
Hell's teeth and I was like "yeah yeah yeah" isn't it.
I'm going to start playing this in my car when there is no Purcell on R3.

Purcell is amazing. To think that someone in their 30s could produce such incredible music it is difficult to comprehend in the real world. I know it's an unusual interpretation of the Cold Song and not everyone likes it but Klaus Nomi did sort the chromatics very nicely here Other versions are available ! This song means a lot to me as I was listening to it randomly just before my healthy old man died while having a shit two and a half years ago.
