I hate sailing but then I saw this boat today. Its a steel boat. 35-40ft. I think its stunning. Two masts and two jibs or whatever they are so lots of sail area. Such a wicked boat I want it. Second photo makes it look a bit awkward but I still love it. Suspect it is a one-off not a production boat.

That hull looks suspiciously like it's made of ferro cement....

I would be very surprised if that is steel Andrew, Complex curves like that extremely difficult in steel ....... normally they are multichine.

Yes, I thought it was a ferrocement boat but I went very close to it and there was some pitting visible under the paint which made me think its steel. Maybe ferrocement gives the same effect. I should have stuck a magnet to it but I was not sure if the skipper was aboard ! I think its a steel boat.

I love it such a pretty boa. I really have to buy one to get it out of my system, you would have thought sailing half way around the world would have done it? But no I still want to go sailing

Not my kind of boat, but it's a good looking boat though. Like John, I don't think its steel looking at the shape.

I'm tempted to sneak up in my stealth electric kayak and stick a (very small) magnet to it just to prove it. I agree it is a very smooth shape for steel but I don't think its impossible. Improbable yes.

I went out in the kayak and put a magnet to it. It did stick a little bit here and there so yes it is a ferrocement hull not a steel hull.
I knew this all along I was just seeing what the knowledge was like on here.

that boat has the typical lines of an antipodean design, probably of kiwi origin. Ferro-cement boats were popular there because the relatively small demand and limited manufacturing facilities made one-off boat building economically viable.

Its very similar to a boat that used to moor on the same pontoon as me at Chatham. I gave the owner my old tender once and he took me onboard for a few pinkers. we didnt get past the wheel house and i staggered back to my boat much the worse for wear with my insides sloshing full of scotch......happy daze

I've been on a tall ship out on the Solent. Worth doing. I enjoyed it more than the ocean racing boat. A friend of mine is a skipper, he does ocean racing. I would love to do the round the world race with him one day. But my experience is not alot really. I can just about sail but don't ask me what anything is called. But saying all that, I'm not sure you could beat a tall ship. We get to see them a lot down here.

Worth a read. I read it many years ago. (magnetman has overtaken Mr Stabby with the post counts!)
