The trouble is, that virtually every boat I see with a "Welcome to moor alongside" sticker in the window, also has a "Boaters Christian Fellowship" sticker in another window, leading me to believe that my peaceful evening moored up will be ruined by constant God-bothery. Look on the bright side you might get to convert some to your satanist ways. You can always stab them if that's not successful.

I have quite a fondness for the Metro. We had em as Panda's in Woolwich, and they didnt half get a beating and abuse, vehicle sympathy didnt enter into it but they stood up well and kept coming back from workshops for more of the same. We had them as Pandas as well: they replaced Escort MkIIs, and didn't last very long before replacement by Vauxhall Vivas. The only good thing about the Metro was that it ended the rule that hats had to be worn while driving.

The only car of that ilk that was any damn good was the Maxi ......I used to call mine the "fairly"car fairly comfortable, fairly quick, fairly good handling, fairly reliable, nicknormanfairly economical. And the advantage that the seats folded down to a full size mattress.

At the risk of swerving back on topic, I hate breasting up to others, and them to me. I dislike marinas for that reason, your only view from the window is some one else's boat. Could I have a 'Bog off and leave me alone' sign instead please Rog

I had a 1600 Allegro, it was a fantastic car, zingy smooth engine, hydro-elastic suspension, groovy square steering wheel... Fantastic road manners.
And an Austin 1800, a beast, like driving your living room, but again great engine slick gears.
And a ford crapi which was frankly a death trap handling wise compared to the Austins, engine no great shakes and gear change like sticky treacle.
But a mate who gave me a lift to work every other day had a vauxhall victor, that really was crap. Someone at work had a spitfire too, what a pile of under performing shite that was!

I also dated a guy that had a Robin Reliant A Reliant three wheeler is on my bucket list of cars, Regal, Robin, van it matters not. I don't know why but it's an itch that needs scratching at some point - trouble is, they are not cheap now. Gray's of Thrapston was our local Reliant dealer, a unique garage run by a father and son team that definitely broke the mould - along with most of their customers, Reliant owners are definitely unique characters. Sadly Gray's is now the site of an exclusive development of executive homes

Could I have a 'Bog off and leave me alone' sign instead please Rog I'm not against it as such, narrow boats are a pain as they are the wrong height to breast easily to and they leave black gunge on our fenders Other cruisers are easier to breast to but have to be comfortable with a big soppy dog and a small sometimes vocal child. I've been tempted to put up a sign saying 'welcome to come along side if you like savage dogs, screaming kids and obscenely loud death metal music'

I learned to drive in 1997. In a gold allegro sport, with vynal seat and a vynal roof. We were not poor but for some reason my first car was an Austin metro. I loved it I could handbrake turn it on the spot ending up parking the opposite way I drove in. My parents both had an allegro each and my sister had the beast of an Austin Montego. To be honest I thought that was actually a very good car. My sister prevously had an old L reg mini which my dad beutifully restored and resprayed for her, imagine my distain when I got a metro that he overhauled. At the same time he was restoring a lovelly triumph Herald. But he sold that instead.

Cars i've owned, first was a 1965 Mini Van that I learned and passed in, I then swapped it with my dad for his Rover 2000tc automatic and when the floor eventually fell out I got the mini back off him. I then sold that and bought an Austin 1300, great little car which I then sold and bought a Morris Marina 1300 which I wrote off and bought a Renault 5 with the umbrella gear shift, which eventually was scrapped and I got an old Citroen DS, you know, the ones the surete used to use which I changed for a Talbot Alpine. Next came a Mk1 Granada 2.0 with ghia interior and a black vinyl roof, I was Jack Reagan in that. Next came a Rover SD1 2300 then a Rover SD1 2600 which blew up on the M6 just past sandbach services. Next was a Datsun Sunny followed by a Lada Riva. following divorce, probably due to my choice in transport I got a VW Jetta and then a Toyota Carina followed eventually by a VW Scirocco. That eventually got changed for a Toyota Corolla followed by a Series 3 Landrover which got stolen and replaced with a Ford Sierra est. Next was a Vauxhall Cavalier auto followed by a Vauxhall Astra which eventuallty gave up the ghost and was replaced by a Hyundai Santa Fe which is still being used to this day Not many people have the cars after I have finished with them. :/

Not many people have the cars after I have finished with them. :/ A man after my own heart ........ I am also a great believer in getting my money's worth out of my cars !!! (My much missed Astravan was typical, my early non-turbo version managed to clock up 297,000 miles before going to the great scrapyard in the sky) it's replacement, an Astra diesel estate received as payment of a debt with 100k on the clock, is now approaching 200k. I'm hoping to beat my record
