There seemed to be little hope for my Chinese Smartphone made by fraudsters, but with trying out all sort of things because absolutely nothing seemed to work, I found a way of getting it to do what it should do, but I have no idea why it does work (for the time being) this way.
What I do now is, as soon as I see that most annoying exclamation mark, I cut out the exchange of data, and switch it off and on upto 50 times, and guess what ?.....no result !
The next step is to go to the list of providers to choose from, and pick mine but not the 4G, but only the 2G, it will go then a few seconds later to 3G, and if the exclamation mark is still there I switch the data exchange off and on, only a couple of times, and hey presto, the exclamation mark disappears, and then I can go back to 4G without it coming back.
For me there's no logic in this procedure, it's just luck, but it has worked now like that, doing what I wrote here since 3 days doing that every morning and sometimes again during the day again, but what counts for me is that it has done the trick.
Does someone smart, smarter than my phone ) have an explanation for this ? I would be really very interested to know why it works this way.
Peter.

Peter. Fiendish oriental magic ? Thanks John, and yes, that could be the reason, but let's see if there are some other ideas (more technical).

Are you in a low signal area?

Are you in a low signal area? No, I'm not, that was also one of the questions I asked the technical support team of my provider. When it's working there's a good and powerful signal, it used to say on my laptop before it started working again (and that gave up working 10 mins ago) excellent signal strenght (coming from my phone) but no internet access. The breaking down of my laptop may be due to the extreme heat we're having here, I would like to quit too, hope it'll work again when it's cooled down. It's good my phone is working, as at least like this I can still communicate with you and the rest of the world. Peter.

What your laptop is telling you is the strength of the wifi signal between phone and itself, this can be full strength with no internet so is of no help. How many signal bars does your phone show? I would bet on this being down to a shitty phone signal and not actually a fault with your device, though it may be down to your phone having a shit internal antenna. Some phones pick up signal better than others. The solution is probably to buy a better phone or to connect an external antenna.

For sure this phone is far from the best phone on the market, but it is the best phone I could afford. The signal strenght is very good and shows the full triangle, it shows the full triangle on my laptop too, so apart from the hassle every morning to get rid of the exclamation mark, I'm quite happy with this phone, and as they say "Beggars can't be choosers" the shitty phone has to do until better times arrive. For all the bother you've had so far with the new Chinese phone, why don't you simply use it as intended.......a phone. Then pick up a cheap MiFi unit to connect your computer to the internet. I purchased one of these Verizon Jetpacks LINK a good few years ago, when I was living in Arizona. It can connect upto 15 independent devices to the internet at once. Simply purchase a suitable data only sim card (there are some still around if you look), insert into the Mifi unit, and Robert's Your Father's Brother.....Internet on tap. I don't use mine much nowadays, as I've got a Galaxy S7, but I still carry it in my brief case as an emergency back up. You can also use it as a spare battery to charge other devices.

Thanks Stumpy, that sounds like good advise, as soon as things will get a bit better financially I may give that solution a try.
It doesn't look very expensive, and it surely isn't for most people, but my fixed outgoing expenses are already more than my retirement income.
At the moment I'm trying to sell a little boat that has become a surplus to my requirements, I only bought that in 2003 to have independent accomodation for visiting familly and friends, they could take the boat for as long as they wanted while visiting and cruise the canals with her.
Only many of these visitors are sadly no longer, and most of the others are too old to travel long distances to come and see me, so to reduice expenses, like cruising licence and insurance, I want to sell the boat.
If I'm Lucky enough to find a new owner for her, I could look more seriously into a gadget to improve my internet access.
What I still don't understand though is why my old phone, which was a cheap one too, that also came from fraudster country, worked very good at the same spot, which this new one does too, after the strange things I have to do once (or sometimes twice) a day to get rid of the exclamation mark, as once that's gone, I'm very happy with the performances of the new phone.
Peter.

Peter. Too late now but if budget is a factor (it sure is with me too) I personally would have gone for a used version of something established like a Samsung/Nokia/iPhone rather than the one you went for. Yes these are often made in China too but are normally subject to much better/more stringent quality control (noting of course the Sammy Note 7 battery debacle). I tend to go for a new phone but when it's two or three versions behind the latest version, you normally still get good use out of them for a few years, and not being bothered about having the latest 'bells and whistles' version it works out better for me. I got my current Galaxy S6 just as the s8 was about to be released, so the price was dropping.

In an earlier posting I wrote that I'd sold the car that I didn't really need, to have the money for a new phone and a new laptop, and that the brand new laptop a Acer Aspire was sent back to the shop for a refund, as the damn thing didn't stop blocking.
Talking to someone who's all day on his computers for his job, he suggested that it was much better to buy a laptop of a better brand second hand, than a cheaper one brand new.
Now I'm waiting to get a second hand Samsung laptop delivered that I won on eBay, hope that I will be happier with that one, once it's on the boat and working like it should.
Some years ago, when I had the money, I bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy 5, I paid for the phone, but I never got it, as it was a very cleverly done scam, that me-and another more than a hundred people were pulled into, and nobody ever got 1 cent back.
Another cheap smartphone I had that worked very well and never gave me any problems whatsoever died when I fell in the water, good thing it was the phone that died and not me (I think).
For my next phone (whenever that may be) I may buy a better well known make phone second hand, but as you already said, it's too late now, and I'll have to live with this one, which isn't as bad now as it was last week, since I've discovered how I can make it work (more or less) normally, and that's good enough for me right now.
Peter.

For what it's worth. I've fairly recently bought 2 Samsung S5's on ebay for less than £100 each. Mind you, it did take a fair few auctions to win them. As an aside, the wife has finally forgiven me for winning a Land Rover Discovery 2 without telling her I was bidding on it. I do let her be sole driver though, which helped..

You didn't do bad there zigspider (if they're both in good working order) as £ 100 looks like a good price for a Samsung S5s.
Very clever of you to have found this forgiving trick to make your wife happy too.
