When I went to Glastonbury, it cost £8 for the weekend.

I went to a free one in 1976. A couple of the paid ones since, also got in free once because I was working there doing circus stuff.

Does ringing the bells at St Lawrence, Chorley count as a 'music festival'? Just come back from it, I was on the tenor.

I've only ever been to one festival and that was the kent Custom Bike show back in the late 80's. I dont remember much except it was Suzi Quatro on stage Ooh, I used to have the most enormous teenage crush on Suzi Quatro. Of course, that was back in the 70s before she grew a moustache.

Just watching Glasto on bbc2 it strikes me how immense an event it has become.
I do wonder if any of the eco warriors who are present resplendent in their CND and greenpeace flags and banners stop to consider the environmental impact of the event?
Smacks of immense hypocrisy to me.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for people having a bloody good time but then let's please not go out next week complaining about people harming the country side and wildlife after you have been trampling all over it for days.

Any large scale event will always impact on the countryside...litter/destruction to natural habitat...its the price paid... Is it right?..I dunno...if the land recovers then whats the harm?...similarly storms/forest fires/natural disasters destroy environment and it regenerates. Man made events are probably no more destructive than Mother Nature...IF....the stuff that doesn't naturally degrade is cleared up Yesterday Swansea held half Marathon and the discarded rubbish appalling which happens every 'running/activity' event....ok it's cleared up but everywhere you get people you get disgusting mess.. People don't clear up after themselves...they seem to think 'entry fee' gives them the right to ditch their plastic/banana skins etc where ever they chose. For me people should be able to enjoy themselves and gain those wonderful memories that are great to dine on for years to come. We just have to ensure rubbish cleared up and environment given chance to recover.

I wonder how many of the litter pickers are Greenpeace members? Perhaps when Jezza was spouting his rubbish, he should have encouraged others to take theirs home...... LINK

Glastonbury has always supported Labour, Greenpeace, CND. They are invited and welcomed. A festival with it's roots as they are is hardly going to support the Tory party. Why does it matter who tidies up, it gets done? Attempting to make something out of this look a bit desperate to me.

Bearded wankers with tattoos and Save the Whales T-shirts, to be seen at the Ibiza gate at Gatwick.

Litter does get dropped, but it is cleared away afterwards, and if it wasn't dropped and then picked up at Glastonbury, then it would simply be going into household dustbins instead. I would imagine the carbon footprint of Glastonbury Festival to be significantly smaller than that of a similar sized town over a comparable time period.

I think the farmer who owns the muddy fields is laughing all the way to the bank of the Cayman Islands with gullible 'hippies and druids' squatting in squalor and forking out for it! Nothing for free there, is there? Well, perhaps the filthy plastic portaloos. The same farmer is cashing in on EU subsidies by claiming he grows 'vegetables' on that land!!
