It's certainly a dumb idea. I am under no illusions that CRT will come to regret the policy in due course. Might turn out to be a good excuse to close down a navigation.. Nothing surprises me anymore. I was told today that widebeam licences will go up next year, and narrow boat licences will be put up in line with widebeam the year after, to make it fair. So, in two years, narrow boat licence will be the same as a widebeam, 25% more expensive 🤣😂🤣😂

A canoe should be faster than a boat (narrow or wide).
However, I can't help thinking about a canoeist we met at one of the lift bridges on the Peak Forest last week: the boat in front of us went through the open bridge, the canoeist overtook me, and was somewhere between the two boats. He had gone into the blind spot in front of our boat, but I was sure I was nowhere near him, until I saw the top of a paddle above the roofline, resting on the bridge wall. He had stopped under the lift bridge ...
I'm sure he didn't the extent of the area in front of a narrowboat that is invisible from the steerer's position, but it was still a daft place and time to stop, and the application of full reverse didn't do my blood pressure any good.

CRT has failed to make boaters aware of this - we have had no personal contact from them as to the possibilty of encountering canoeists in the tunnel. Sloppy from the start. Errrrrrr.... So how exactly did you become aware? Not really the point. If encountering canoes in a tunnel is a risk, then this should be displayed on the notice boards. Boaters should also be made aware of 'Tunnels open for use by canoes and other small craft'. However, what C&RT is doing is doing contravenes what the document says.

Do you actually know no changes to notices are planned?

Basically the whole exercise appears to be a tick in the box to show there has been 'consultation'. They have been targeting wide beams to trigger the excuse and are now using the excuse of 'fairness' to hike us all up. At the workshop I went to, they made a big issue about 'fairness'. It's a pity CRT don't see cost savings as a good way to generate funds for important stuff. I mean, why not reduce the size of their management structure, stop wasting money on pointless court action and pointless initiatives like thee workshops. See you've set me off again.

Obviously I knew they where happening but you are the first person I've talked to who has been to one.
