Spent a nice couple or three of hours today helping two boats down the Caen Hill flight. Only went for a gongoozle but couldn't help offering to assist a pair of boats down, NB Ditto and NB Lazy Lady. Once they realised I knew what I was doing they readily accepted my help.
Very hot for all of us and the help was clearly appreciated as was my being able to operate some locks which I haven't done for the best part of three years.

And partook of a nice pint.,Nice pub in a great location if a tad tight to get to by car, though obviously a doodle by boat.

Do they still have lock keepers with "quad bikes" on that flight? When I went down there in 2001 they were buzzing up and down enough to give me a headache.
I have not been since then so maybe its better now.

One pair did approach the skippers of the two boats I was helping to point out lock 38 shouldn't be exited side by side as to do do so would mean you would get stuck. However she quickly realised both boats had actually already left that lock and were in the next one down, possibly an easy mistake to make given how many of them there are in the flight.

A day out for us too, 'cycling' (pushing bikes up hills and walking them down hills) to Pendle, the big hill in the Land of the Witches! Walked up Pendle - I reckon it was Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent we saw in the distance, and possibly Kinder Scout. The way to Hebden Bridge via Widdop was obvious. We could also spot Jim Riley's house!

You may well have seen the windmills above my house, about a mile away, the are as big as Blackpool tower. Walking and pushing?? Puny legged offcomeduns! The bit of a brough from Sabden to the Nick o'Pendle is used for timed cycle hill climbs. I hope you treated herself to a new hat, black and pointy, from Sabden, home of the Pendle Witches.

in attempting to avoid neighbours cane creation for her 'must grow' runner beans my new red car now has a scrape down the side as the fence the other side attacked us...having written grovelling apology and offered to replace said fence I escaped to the woods and there sat and 'told the trees what it was all about'...oops she's here now...
