I just tied an old Olympic Games wildlife raft to my boat. Someone had the bright idea to install them around Limehouse in 2011/12 as part of making the area look better during the olympics. Anyway they were not built to last and now randomly appear here and there. I'm a bit worried I may need to license it if I tow it behind. A "garden license" perhaps?

We all know it's your weed plantation, so you don't have to go and buy from the dealers at camden lock.

Put the Moorhen nest on it, refuse to license it, get the RSPB to sue CRT when they tow it away. Simples...

You don't have to pretend, it's okay. But I don't think its within crt's powers to liscence you to grow it.

If you keep that alongside or tow it around for any significant length of time, you may well prompt C&RT into introducing some sort of 'Accompanying Garden Mooring Fee' scheme to compliment the End of Garden Mooring Fees they already extort from some boaters. I think your best option would be to take it to the nearest Visitor Moorings or C&RT bog emptying facility, tie it up securely there, and then report it for 'overstaying'. They will almost certainly then slap a Section 8 notice on it, crane it onto a lorry, and transport it up to one of their most northerly waterways from where it will be offered for sale to the highest bidder.

I would worry about the fact that you do not own it first, and have stolen it. You are of course just keeping it from obstructing the waterway, and looking for the owner, if the Dibble knock on your door.

Yes this is a good point. It was obstructing a lock so I towed it away. I will probably secure it and leave it somewhere as its actually quite an irritating thing to tow about !!

Can't you claim end of garden mooring with that next to your boat? Also, because you are always moored to it you can stop where you want for however long you want. When you register for it make sure you are somewhere that online moorings are cheap. Win win.
