Or here. This guy parked today on our local beach at Saltburn-by-the-sea. Apparently he didn't want to pay to park in the carpark across the road. Expensive mistake.

The sea is looking very calm, so the car may still be at the same spot at the next low tide. It may have been the wife that parked there, at the next low tide she can call her husband to tell him that their car won't start due to water in the carburettor. Peter.

I reckon is fuel injected - looks a bit new to have a carburettor. Too bad, as she has to find another excuse in that case. Btw in case you didn't catch what I wrote in answer on Martin's posting, it was supposed to be a joke, so the carburettor or fuel-injection wasn't of any importance, and I didn't know if the car had an automatic gearbox, or a waterproof cigarette lighter either . Peter.

I didn't say that it was a woman, I wrote :"It may have been the wife", as that would fit better (in general) with the story. There are of course some woman that are more car-technically able than their husbands, but I can't see (although I'm not blind) a man calling his wife to say that the car won't start because of water in the carburettor, and even less so with a fuel injected engine I didn't read the newspaper article, so I didn't know that they were talking there about "he". For the rest, I have nothing against female car drivers at all. Peter.

Might be a diesel in which case he may have got away with it. Not if they try to start it with water in the intake side. It's a sure fire way to wreck a diesel. Many a diesel has been wrecked because the air intake is often very low on modern cars, relatively low level flood water will often bring a diesel to a grinding and very expensive halt.

Hydraulic lock is possible I suppose - that's true. I almost hydraulicked my Land Rover when I drove it through a flooded river. It was a Defender with the intake on the front wing and the water got to within an inch of it. I see why people have snorkels !

People used to think they were OK because they were in a 'big' vehicle so used to try to drive through relatively shallow water only to discover the air intake was ridiculously low and almost a perfect design to scoop up copious amounts of water....................thud!

That car is just scrap, so many computers and other electronic devices & sensors, many of which are powered up even with the key off, and are now full of salty water.
