Both the IWA and CaRT are forgetting that the waterways are public property controlled by statute and bylaw, CaRT only manages them according to what parliment or the secretary of state allows them to do. Which seems to be just about anything. Time to phone angrily to the IWA then and give them a piece of your mind! By the way jenlyn, the possessive form is 'its' - don't just chuck in an apostrophe in the hope it's going to look educated.

The IWA is recommending that CaRT break the law and disregard statute.

I've never been a member of any organisation. Not quite sure why but I have always felt I don't "belong".
I'm not the messiah.

Did you not notice that this had not been drawn up by it's membership? So what, that doesn't mean a good chunk of the membership doesn't approve of it. Well this chunk wasnt asked and cancelled his membership! others did the same on the other channel and same as me emailed them why. They are supposed to ask the members what they want so that their views can be the ones put forward, surprise surprise, CRTs right arm didnt ask, along with the RBOA and others, its a con to extract more cash from us. When your license goes up because it aint a yogurt pot dont complain to us we did tell you it would happen. The RBOA to be fair are going to print my letter to them and ask the membership but I aint holding my breath on this one. Also why pick on widebeams is it because they aint got fake rivets? I mean Johnny would have put them on for me if I had asked, it still wouldnt make it a working boat but at least it has room and it is right boat for wide northern waterways.

Its a good observation and something that had interested me for a good few years. Why people never have washers welded to boats other than narrow boats.
I think it could actually be a key indicator. People who have houses and narrow boats to play with in summer would never dream of living on the boat full time because a narrow boat is umm.. err.. narrow!
Introduce nice wide beam boats which fairly accurately imitate comfortable flats or small houses and it raises a different subject. People who do like being on the water but would never live on a narrow boat are confronted by the wide beans and feel a little bit aggrieved "we could rent the house out and live on one of those" except a lot of people wouldn't, or there are man/woman differences. All of this leads to contempt and envy. "If I can't do it I don't want anyone else to either"
I know its not that simple but I'm sure that's part of it.

Your right it's also part of the dislike of cc'ers non cc'ers have. Jealousy, they could do it as well but just can't quite take the leap. So they don't want people ccing reminding them they haven't got the bottle to do the same.

Sometimes these sort of forums can warp perspective an awful lot.
I am one of four friends who bought their boats independently, over a two or three year period over ten years ago.
For 12 years we have lived on our boat, 9 months a year, continuously cruising, but then moor it Oct, Nov and Dec, whilst we work back home.
Two of the others have permanent moorings, but go out extended cruising between April and October, subject to their view of the weather and other commitments.
The last is a single handed live aboard continuous cruiser, and has been since 2004. He travels extensively, but slowly. He's done the K&A three times single handed, so he isn't daunted by much.
I am the only one of the four of us to visit forums like this.
There is no animosity expressed about continuous cruisers, or any other kind of boater, by them or by the people they come into contact with.
One of my mates brought his boat out from it's mooring for the first time last month, and within a week got an erroneous over stay e mail from C&RT. He thought it was funny, rang up and sorted it.
I'm not saying all is well, or that the C&RT initiated legal battles aren't a travesty (particularly the Liverpool case).
But I do think it is a mistake to base too many opinions of other's thought processes on internet forums.
The world can be jolly nice, and people friendly and supportive.

Hear hear. This forum is dominated by a handful of doom-mongers, and doesn't reflect reality! - even though occasionally it's easy to forget that! Most boaters are not on forums. Most boaters are not anti-CRT.
mind you, I notice you didn't mention fat boats.... say no more!
