I like the way banking has gone. No longer due you need to drive to a branch and queue up like you still need to do in the Post Office. I'm with First Direct. I've rarely needed to call them but when I have, the call is answered immediately, by a real person who I can easily understand. Couldn't be better.

I've never been to my bank, or even the island they are based on.

By the way, no-one has asked recently how Delta's dad is, and how D9 is coping. I suppose the MDF shed provides some light relief now & then.
Another un-followed-up matter is Mrs Tabby's broken rib.
Yes, Badger, we know you got shot once, wait your turn...

Yes, Badger, we know you got shot once, wait your turn... Dad is still housebound but can do most tasks for himself. He starts radiotherapy this week. MDF shed is inexplicably still standing. I think we will have to wait for winter to see any further developments on that front.

Came home for a couple of days, to mail from my bank telling me I'm going to be charged a pint of blood and a kidney for drifting into an 'unagreed' overdraft!
Luckily my May statement was also in the pile, and on checking I discovered a wad of cash was removed by standing order and paid to some person I've never heard of on the 30th.
Spent all morning fannying about to try and get all my money back.
The bizarre thing is that it's a Standing Order. This means I have to physically sign and set it up.
How the hell they've managed to pay someone else's standing order out of my account, just for one random month, I suppose I'll never known.
I told you......banks are an evil empire. They cock it up, and charge me for their error!

Demand compensation. You may borrow our axe if you like.
Bradford & Bingley and Bankrupt all begin with the letter B. As does Banks are Bastards.

Update today, and my £300 has been returned, together with all the charges they had applied.

I am now with First Direct which is part of HSBC. U.K. Call centre staff who are pretty good. Thumbprint recognition on the phone app means no more having to remember "characters 5 and 8 of your password". Until you phone them of course! The only annoying thing they did was block my debit card when I was buying the new Skoda. Card machine in the showroom, entered my pin all smiley - transaction denied! Despite the fact that I'd phoned them the previous day to tell them I was buying a new car! However it didn't take long to sort it out over the phone. As treasurer of the gliding club I still visit a BoS branch fairly often to pay money in, but whereas 10 years ago I would have a stack of cheques, now most people pay by standing order, BACS, or card machine so I rarely get them, just a bit of cash from people in the "gig" economy or other tax dodgers (no, that IS unfair of me!). Other than that, I don't really have need to visit a branch. Which is just as well as First Direct don't have any! Much the same as Nationwide. When we bought the car and caravan a couple of years ago I rang them to alert them a significant amount of dosh was going to go from our account within the space of a couple of days. They told me transactions selected for further scrutiny or authorisation where selected completely randomly by their systems and could not be 'pre authorised'. Both transactions totalling several tens of thousands went through with not a glitch, just 4 presses of a key pad each..

I find that they go through but you won't believe the amount of people that then stop at the shop on the way home and the small transaction is then stopped untill a phone call is made confirming the identity of the cold holder. They always sat I just spent xxxxx thousands on a car normally.
