Hooray for the Tory government From September 1st we get 30 hours a week funding for nursery placement for the dwarf. This cuts out monthly bill from a shade over £800 to a gnats over £480. It's the first time ever I have had a direct positive impact on my life from the blood sucking Tory leaches. So the squeezed middle becomes a little less squeezed thanks to the generosity of the rest of the tax paying public (myself included 👍) What to do with the extra dosh? Tfata easy, spend it on sex, drugs and rock and roll and waste the rest

Why would it have a direct positive impact on your life to be at work when you could be with your child?

Why would it have a direct positive impact on your life to be at work when you could be with your child? Because she's been there since 10 month's old, mum wanted to continue her career, nothing more nothing less, she's a nurse on the Chemo ward so is a fairly useful member of the NHS service. She worked bloody hard to qualify and has done a long stint in A&E as a HCA - It was absolutely the right decision for her to be a healthcare professional and a mother. The dwarf is a bright, articulate, well socialised child that will find starting school less difficult than those children who have stayed at home through their early childhood. It's not cheap giving a child a good start in life, but it's nice to have some of the burden shouldered for her last 12 months there.

Oh, and as for your ridiculous but disappointingly predictable Eastern European dig, you'd love her nursery, not one Easten European works there, all local ladies and girls.

So both parents going out to work while their child is cared for by strangers is a good thing then?

So both parents going out to work while their child is cared for by strangers is a good thing then? I think so, its not the 1950's you know. Thankfully women can continue to have a career as well as being a mother. In our case it wasn't a financial necessity she went back to work, but that's because we both paid attention at school. Beside all that, our little un absolutely loves going to nursery, they have a day that mirrors that of infant school with structured learning, she has a wider circle of friends, she is much further forward in establishing relationships with adults - particularly in the sort of role she will experience at school, it's not a one-way street either. All of the staff get huge job satisfaction and develop friendships and bonds with all the children they look after. Still, if your used to sitting on your own for long periods of your working day that lot would be hard to understand.

I thought you said you paid attention at school?

If you get off on yours, your, you're typos then you are running out of puff on this one. Still, I guess I'd be overqualified for change gear, change gear, change gear kill a prostitute, even with the odd typo

So both parents going out to work while their child is cared for by strangers is a good thing then? Well, yes. They would get stale just being at home with Mum & Dad, nothing to do but just be plonked in front of the TV. Being in nursery gives them the chance to beat up other kids, and have tantrums whilst parents have a nice rest at work.

I reckon that's game set and match Gazza, not that it matters.
Pleased to hear something's turned right for your family.
Life can be good.

I'll freely admit to being rather happy that the girls at nursery have really worked hard on our behalf with toilet training, that was money well spent if nothing else!

But £800/month? Really? That's not right.

Rog The biggest drawback of the nursery she goes to is its attached to the hospital, as such the hospital is the focal point rather than a village or community within a town, upshot of that is the kids come from all points of the compass and will mostly go their separate ways when they start school. She will likely keep in touch with a couple of the children in her group, but will not go to school with any of them - she's the only one from our village that currently attends. We are thinking of doing half a day at the preschool attached to the school she should go to in our village, just so she becomes familiar with the place and some of the kids she should be at school with.

But £800/month? Really? That's not right. 4 lots a week of £51 a day discounted NHS staff rate. Within that is 07:00 - 18:00 opening if you need it, the dwarf doesn't, she is 08:00 - 16:30 so we pay a bit over the odds for it. I haven't the heart to tell Stabby about the childcare voucher salary exchange scheme - between us we don't pay tax and NI on £486 of earnings per month, been doing that since February 2015 👍
