A comment Patty misread put this in mind, so I thought I'd ask.
Last Wednesday we walked into Henley in Arden, and almost bumped into Bev Bevan.
Back in 2012 whilst on the K&A moored at Pewsey, I really did bump into (and nearly knocked over) Zoe Wanamaker. The lady is tiny, and utterly gorgeous too.
And whilst in London back in May we said hello to Paul Merton near Leicester Square. Jane couldn't get over how tall he was (6'4" ish).
Have you sighted anyone who could be described as someone?
Rog

Does being a 'celebrity' equate to being someone now?

I have known Chris Chittel from Emmerdale for 40 years, through this I have known the cast for a number of years as well. I also because of Chris knew Peter O Toole and had a happy day drinking in London with them, I have dated Malandra Burrows from the cast as well when I was younger and much fitter, happy days and I here she is single so you never know ha ha

Does being a 'celebrity' equate to being someone now? Bev Bevan is a musician. Zoe Wanamaker an actor. Paul Merton is a comedian. Who mentioned celebrity? Rog

Does being a 'celebrity' equate to being someone now? ... Who mentioned celebrity? I did As I recognized the names and they are from the world of entertainment I thought I was justified in considering that most posts would be about celebrities. I just consider everyone to be someone

I'm sure you are just trying to be pedantic, but just in case you genuinely don't understand, I will explain. Everyone is indeed someone. You are indeed someone. However there is no likelihood that you or I would recognise each other in the street, unless we agreed to wear a carnation. In which case it would be impossible to name the someone we had seen. I hope that explains the concept Rog

I'm strongly against what I see as a 'still dangerous' celebrity culture so occasionally comment against the concept - if that is being pedantic then I'll accept it. Sorry for the hijack.

If we spend too much time living in the shadows of celebs, we become more and more dumbed down. Go for a walk, a trip in the boat, pop into a pub, have a meal out, sit in a park, join a club, anything where you meet 'normal' real people. Not those who have their souls bought off them.

Zoe Wanamaker looks like Felicity Kendal.
Prunella Scales and Timmy West have been on our barge.

I did meet quite a few from working in the industry for a few years .......but without doubt the most memorable encounter (from 30 years ago) was being given a hug and a kiss on the cheek by Britt Ekland

I am moored at Wilmcote at present, and have just spent a lovely afternoon in the Tudor farm. Met hundreds of people and chatted to them. As I didn't get everyone's name, and in any case you wouldn't know them had I done so, I can't name them. Doesn't quite work does it. I have no problem that you don't like 'the cult of celebrity' but may I remind you, you are the only one to mention celebrity Rog

Timmy Mallet stood on my shoulders. Appeared on WAC90 with Tommy Boyd and Michaela Stratton. Been on the Children in Need programme a few times. Taught Paul Nicholas to walk the tightwire. Check out the circus edition of Something Special with Mr Tumble, I got him up on stilts. I was about a metre from our Madge on my stilts when she visited Rochdale. Plus sundry other radio and TV interviews over the years. OK, I'm a tart, but never saw any money out of that, had to threaten Chinese burns all round before they would contribute to Skylight Circus Arts coffers, a charity to boot.
