The control panel for our Isuzu 35 has a VDO tachometer with built in digital hour counter. The hour counter display has been intermittent for the last 2 or 3 years, still counting hours ok but showing a blank screen when weather damp. On this long weekend trip back fro being blacked it's not shown it's face at all and I was wondering if anyone might know a fix? It was brand new with the boat (and engine) 12 years ago. I know I could replace it but it has the genuine hours on of my engine which I want to keep. I have checked all the connections this afternoon and they all seem to be ok but no display. Any help would be much appreciated, as although I can do the basics, I'm no electronics whizz.

Or it may respond well to being thoroughly dried out. I hung ours over the stove for a couple of days last year, and it's been OK since.

If you're that bothered about keeping the genuine hours then wind it up with a Black and Decker drill.

The mechanical types are very cheap on ebay. I'm told they're easy to wire in to the ignition. Obviously not easy for me Rog

Thanks for the replies people, much appreciated. I'm going to try warming it and I've emailed the guy from the YouTube clip about his replacement lcd display. A bit expensive I know, but much cheaper than a new tachometer, and it keeps the original hours.

Mine failed 6 years ago I change oil and filter yearly and that seems to be working out fine
