Just been to The Navigation pub, Sowerby Bridge to book a table for tomorrow evening, only to find they have shut up and gone. It's a good-looking stone-built structure, look it up. It would be a shame to see it not carry on as a pub, Sowerby Bridge is woefully short of cosy, proper pubs. Anyone here want to keep it going? It's right beside the canal and Shire Cruisers' basin, and there were always customers in it when we went there. The food was good!

It's very sad to see the decline of the British pub, I see pubs which have been trading for centuries which have closed. I don't think the trend will ever be reversed, and there are many factors behind the change, beer is enormously expensive in pubs compared to supermarkets, people's homes are nicer so they don't have to go to the pub for a bit of luxury, the smoking ban and even the rise of internet social media.

With social media it seems to be invading life to such an extent all you see is people on their phones engaging with friends whereas before they may have met up...the added expense to night out is often taxi fares to factor in.. Social media has changed society as we knew it. Pubs have to be child friendly to get families then those of us who hate noisy badly behaved little horrors won't go. The trad pub certainly on the decline.

The Navigation would make for a cosy house/home. Lots of boats pass it. If I bought it I would rig up a boat horn by the canal bank and toot as boats approach or have passed and laugh as they tried to spot 'that other boat'!
