At last afterr a arse about at the wood yrd they got the Sapele veneered ply in i ordered a week a go. The Crown cut Sapele looks ok but the ply it on looks more like shutter ply. Is that normal, never bought the stuff before. Still to laote as i have just cut it up and fitted it lol. Just curious. good side back side Average price at £23 a sheet of 8x4 / 3mm. Honestly dont know what i was expecting but the dealer said it will be an good external grade ply used, which i am sure it isnt, just the backing ply looks crap, split s and filled, massive knots. Plan is to use a clear Danish oil onc ethe seats are lined etc.

Put simply the more plys the more £. More plys is "better" but not necessarily better for the particular job. More plys tends to be heavier as well as stronger.

you can't see it and it is more than strong enough for the job. You can get fabulous quality ply but if it just lining out and needs no structural integrity ....... you are just wasting dosh. save your money to spend on the bits where quality is important.

oh yes i agree, its not structural, i think i was expecting maybe with such a nice veneer then they would use a slight betetr ply, as you say though and i agree its not needed.
See why T calls me Faffer now lol

If it's 3.4(?)mm that's par for the course and maybe for 6.4. thicker I'd want more plys based on gut feeling, I've never been a joiner. I built a cupboard in my camper from cheap ply, it delaminated. Normally I'd use expensive birch ply but I ran out and was just a small cupboard... The birch ply is eye wateringly £££

Good price, but that's how it is, you get what you pay for.

whatever you do, don't attempt to use a sander (or sand by hand) - you will prob'ly find the veneer is only a few microns thick.
