Hi all, I've been looking at some boats for sale on Apollo Duck.
I see that some have a tax status and some don't. Of those that do I see things like tax paid, tax incl and tax exempt. As someone from overseas I'm a little confused about all these tax statuses (or no tax status) when buying a boat.
Is someone able to tell me what these all mean please?
Thanks

I think its related to VAT and the EU. If you buy outside the EU and want to bring the boat into the EU you would have to pay VAT on it so best to buy one with EU VAT paid by the previous owner.
I think there may also be a question about buying one from a business that has claimed VAT back but as I am no tax expert you can not rely on any of this.

You can pretty much ignore it. The different statuses you are seeing are most likely down to the advertiser not knowing what to put down. VAT is paid on new boats or boats imported from outside the EU. Buying a second hand boat in the UK will not require you to pay tax.

Oh lovely thanks both of you. Sounds like it's worth ignoring.
There's enough other things to think about when buying a second hand boat without having to worry about tax!
