We have to leave the boat for four nights.
We suffered a burglary a few years ago, having left it on a towpath 14 day mooring in Braunston, and we now work on the general principal that mooring fees in a marina or similar, are cheaper than the excess on our insurance.
I enquired at Braunston marina, expecting £10 or £12 per night, to be told they charge £15 per night, making £60 for my four nights!
We're not going to be on board, we don't want hook up or water so there are no direct costs from our presence. I also expect we would be in a berth vacated by a long term moorer not yet returned from their summer travels (based on what was said) so my fees would be in addition to the regular income on that berth.
Seems a bit greedy to me, but am I missing something.

When is this? I'll ask if you can stop on my mooring if it's before I get back.

That's very kind thank you.
However I have a hire car arranged (pick up and drop off) and have now arranged a mooring at less than half the cost.
But thank you for the offer.

Stockton Top marina is £7/night and that's about normal. You are spoiled for choice in that area - you can try Wigram's turn, and Napton without doing any locks, or if you drop down the three locks at Calcutt, there are Calcutt, Ventnors Farm and Stockton Top marinas

Rog Just checked one of our old marinas (Mercia) out of curiosity and they charge £13 per night which makes Braunston look expensive when you consider the security and the facilities on offer at the respective marinas. Perhaps Braunston believe their location commands some sort of premium??

Wish I'd known about Stockton top marina, £7 is much more sensible.
But for this trip we are now fixed up.
Makes you wonder how £15 can be justified.

" during that time Suzie met the most rude and unhelpful man in Braunston Marina so our time here is not full of happy memories! Oh and by the way it's true about everyone knowing everyone "on the cut" as we were telling the story about the blokey at Braunston Marina to a bloke in a Marina in Lancashire, and he said, "I've heard that about him before, he's a miserable git isn't he?". "Braunston Marina putting up their laundrette charges by 50%, the cost of the dryer is the most expensive I have seen anywhere in the country (£1.50 for 20 mins) and the one washing machine that was working didn’t clean the clothes very well. I went into their office to get some money back on the tokens I hadn’t used, and asked (not complained!) if they realised the boaters dryers were not at the going rate, then had a lecture about how the machines were abused, how it costs a lot to keep them going, and that anyway, I didnt HAVE to use them! Not a good attitude in the Marina Office, unfortunately I have always found them unfriendly" noproblem.org.uk/blog/marinas-around-braunston-and-good-fish/

It's funny how different people think, but if I were considering looking for short term boat accommodation in the area, Braunston marina would be last on my list. Just their reputation impinging on my brain over the last 20 years or so I guess.

Also electric and water etc. I wouldn't for one moment consider stopping in Braunston marina, it's a dump.

Rog No worries, for future reference for you or anybody else with a similar sized boat to mine who needs to temporarily moor in Warwickshire, I very much doubt it would be a problem for someone to borrow my mooring if I was away, this does already happen quite a lot with the other moorers and all I would have to do would be to make a quick phone call to let the other moorers know. It's a very secure mooring, and I would refuse all and any offers of payment.

Just to clarify, I will be at Braunston when I have to leave the boat, which isn't the same as I am going to Braunston to leave the boat. I would have paid a tenner a night just for the peace of mind......but £15 is way too much peace of mind for me Rog
