Welcome to be bored looking at other peoples’ holiday photos!
Here we have the 4th part of a series of 6 albums which tell the tale of our slow trek by narrowboat across the Pennines along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. In this set of photos you’ll find us first hanging around East Marton. Here we did a turnaround and chugged back to Barnoldswick to see if Lower Park Marina would replace our scupper tubes (for the drains under the deckboards); when they said ”Ask again next week” I thought ”I can’t see it happening…” and so we carried on a bit to the little deck landing beside The Anchor Inn at Salterforth. It’s a nice, friendly pub, and we stopped here again for 2 nights. This gave us the opportunity to put the chains (taken to Finland and cleaned at home) on our bikes and pedal off to Pendle the next day in fine weather.
We turned round again at Foulridge and, of course, ended up going down the three Greenberfield Locks again but this time not stopping in East Marton, instead a little way beyond in open countryside. Bank Newton Locks are padlocked these days until 8am ’because of a water leak from one of the locks’ and after these we stopped in Gargrave for 4 nights. For the first evening we put our bikes on a train and went to Skipton to listen to the Skipton and Ilkley Choir sing at Christ Church; on the Sunday we cycled to Malham Cove.
On the Tuesday I washed our boat with a brush and some cream cleaner in Gargrave, in the pouring rain and with the help of the hose connected to the water tap, and off we went in the rain to Skipton - 4 nights here. Two trips to the well-run launderette, and jumped on a train to go to Carlisle for a few hours, along the railway that runs through Settle, Kirkby Stephen and Appleby.
And then onwards from Skipton towards Bingley…
On clicking the link below and seeing all the photos appear at once, you should then click on the first photo to enlarge it, and then click the little i (information sign top right) for the text I have added to appear. Then you may either click the forwards arrow to continue to the next photo, or use your keyboard arrow buttons to sail back and forth.
