How long will it be before drones are
1. Banned?
Or
2. Regulated and taxed?

I like the way drones have changed photography and videos. The idiots who fly them in silly places such as airport runways deserve a bonking on the head with a handspike. But what d'ya fink of this?

Is the skipper paying attention to steering the boat or is he concentrating on controlling the drone? I wonder what the insurance company would say.
Its a nice bit of the River Thames near Bourne End/Cookham Dean do makes a good video as would lots of other places on the River. But the problem with drones is that if one person can use one without regulation then so can everyone else and at some point things like privacy come into it.

I don't know what i think about drones..they have their uses but like everything else in unscrupulous/irresponsible hands they will become a nuisance

I bet you have a quadcopter on your birthday presents list? I think it would be fun for someone to film a boat on a long journey, say the Leeds & Liverpool from end to end.

I really like time lapse photography using a camera mounted somewhere on the boat. Drones do give a good view and yes I am in a grumpy mood but at the end of the day a drone is a bit rude and there is the danger of an object falling onto people. I know that the proper drones have backup motors but the average mr Joe public probably doesn't have that setup so if he s drone packs in due to a motor failure there is a chance of it falling on someone. Is it insured.
I have unusually sensitive hearing which makes buzzing sounds very intrusive. I particularly hate dragonflies.

I don't mind things like meteorites falling on me. Thats not a problem at all.
I dislike civilian operated drones. I guess the time to ban them will be when some clever "terrorist" uses one to drop a bomb on an influential individual.

A good one can be programmed to fly a course including one which follows you at a specific distance, needing minimal intervention. A guy was filming the site we were on at Doussard in France last month for a promo video using one and he was showing us how it worked. It was quite impressive.

Mike the skipper of Victoria seemed to be looking downwards in the video like he was concentrating on a device rather than whether he was about to ram another boat or rower etc.

Looking at the video I think it's pretty obvious he can see anything he's approaching or at risk of hitting, in fact possibly better than he can stood on the counter of his boat.
