Approaching other boats, passing etc.
Are there any particular hand signals people like to use?
Is there an official list of recognised signals.
I read if you are over 7ft wide you do a reach out with both arms thing to indicate this to other boat users.
I'm not aware of any official ones but maybe there are some.

I was wondering this the other day... trouble is, folk are often too far away to see me gesticulating properly... I sort of "point" my arm the way I intend to go - trouble is, sometimes THEY take that as instruction for them to go that way (usually just after I'm coming out of winding the boat at the water point).... I know the "horn" code but no one else seems to so I dont bother with that one!

Or you could just use the approved sound signals that can't be misinterpreted!

Are there any particular hand signals people like to use? This was used as a warm reply to this:- Dad and his mates were quite friendly with the Broads Beat lads that ran their boat out of Hardly Dyke on the Yare so it was always taken in good spirit. It is about time it was reunited with the Yellow Peril now its back in its original stomping ground, although, it does come in handy replying to the gobshites that work on the mezzanine floor opposite my office
