News from Ely that the council has agreed to purchase the moorings from the EA. It may not be ideal and the EA as the navigation authority should have retained the moorings as part of its clear statutory duty to promote recreational boating and provide facilities. However, it should at least give the vital boat-hire and other riverside businesses the chance to negotiate new leases with an authority that understands and appreciates their importance rather than their being priced out of the market.

The one thing I will say is that bit of moorings is usually full, be it with Bridge Boatyard boat's or boat's that never seem to move all that much. For a visiting boater it's has little or no real impact, as the best bet is coming upstream to moor as soon as you can from Willow walk onwards. Coming downstream you usually find that is full so moor as soon as you can from the Cutter onwards.
For Bridge Boatyard and those that don't move much it would have been a big deal indeed!
