Why don't the police concentrate on low level crime 100%.. I'd imagine murders & shootings etc are fairly rare in comparison to burglaries, car crime and the like plus, the actual impact on somebody once they're dead is minimal; they're still going to be dead, while finding a burglar may well result in getting your stuff back. I'd also suspect that the costs involved in getting petty criminals off the streets, as opposed to master crimelords, who go out of their way to cover up their tracks, is probably fairly low, our tax is going to go further locking up tracksuited scrotes and the impact on the general population would be much greater.
The next step in this would be to continue the policy for the next 50 years or so, on the basis that the detection and conviction rate would be much much higher, which, allied to the fact that 99% of serious criminals start out as petty criminals, would mean that within a generation there'd be no serious criminals left.
Probably!

There is plenty of money, it just pissed up against the wall by managers and senior officers who only have their next rank as their goal. When i joined the Met in 1985 there were 25,000 officers. We went to every call from thefts of petrol to murders and old ladies who couldnt find their purse to old people falling over on a bus.
Woolwich which covered an area from the Thames barrier over to the far side of Thamesmead and then south past Shooters Hill as far as the boundary with Eltham. On night duty we put out two double crew'd area cars, two double crew'd vans and 5 double crew'd panda's and also had enough plods for a couple of foot patrols around the town centre.
Now we have a complement of 35,000 officers. Woolwich Divison has merged with Greenwich to make a super Borough and they struggle to put out one area car. they should have two vans but often only have one, they otherbeing driven by the patrol sergeant. 3 pandas are a luxury but are often taken off the road to cover crime scenes or constant watches on prisoners in hospital or in the cells who are considered a suicide risk. There are no foot patrols. All this to cover an area the size of a small city.
Mobile phones mean that the number of calls for police has tripled especially from janice aged 15 who has had a barney with dwayne aged 17 so she calls police to sort 'im out then never answers her phone to update us of where she is etc and because she is deemed to be a child and vulnerable the call has to remain open and on the list for days until we finally manage to getg hold of her again while she's out on the piss with dwayne and you finally manage to get her allegation put on the crime report system but also have to complete several other online forms.
Where have all the officers gone? They've all gone off to joins squads of coppers sitting in front of computers in offices.
The Job's fucked

If you catch crims you have to jail them. The jails are full and the Tories are selling them off for conversion to private housing. There is no will to tackle crime. Crime suites the system as it frightens people into staying in their boxes like good tax payers. Work, telly, shop from home and a 2 week holiday somewhere = perfect model citizen.

If you catch crims you have to jail them. I hear Centrica PLC have an abundance of gas sat round in tanks doing nothing!

Seems that anything covered by insurance is only a crime in so far as getting a crime number for your claim. All neatly run and organised by adjusting the cost of cover with a taxable profit to boot! Why would a system that profits from crime by ignoring it but would pay out a bundle to deal with it with no measurable benefit to itself, want to stop it?

The money is being diverted to essential secret service work. Organisations like MIx are working tirelessly to prevent a massive catastrophic apocalyptic event happening. Nobody is allowed to be told* what that event actually is going to be but its incredibly serious and entirely justifies all the cuts to local police services etc. *I could tell you but it would not end well. Ive read(almost) all this thread and this post I considered worth quoting cos...does that mean...just maybe...I'll be paid £££ for my under cover spying work.......Im coming soon to a towpath near you..................................................

I will consider it. There may be an electric strimmer available for dealing with the invasive plant issue but I have not yet received delivery confirmation from my man at the ACC. Anti-goat devices may be available depending on stock.
Payment via usual channels (what people call "money") is very unusual.
Tea is generally available and biscuits.

I think people misunderstand the purpose of the police. The sole reason for their existence is to protect the ruling classes from a re-run of the French revolution, but they will also give high priority to protecting the wealthy against low-level, low value crime. Steal £1 from the queen and you are in big trouble, steal £1 from a tramp who has just £1 to his name and they won't even bother turning up. Obviously, with no guillotining to prevent, they have to find other things to occupy their time, such as fining motorists for exceeding the speed limit by such a small margin that the average viewer would not be able to discern it, and planting drugs on black people.

To be fair its all true.
The real elephant in the room is the welfare state. Look after the poor ? What a joke. Look after the rich by taking money from the pockets of the working class man to pay the "poor" so they don't go and rob the rich. The rich don't pay as they have accountants to deal with the tax problems . Take away welfare "benefits" and you have a huge group of people who's survival instinct will kick in and guess who they will go hunting !
Biggest scam about and lines up with ignoring "low level" crime because it is plebs v plebs.
