I had previously used hammers and saws but then I found this item in the canal with the magnet. A slide hammer nail puller. It works pretty well but as it has been in the cut ages it is quite fekked.
Its good but £35 does seem a lot.
What do other people do about knocking pallets down into parts big enough to put in the fire?
The stove on my residential boat has a rotary grate which is allergic to nails.

Is there an echo in here? poor Echo loved Narcissus who only loved himself and seeking to protect Zeus who cavorted with nymphs she was punished and left only able to repeat the last few words....tling pallets...tling pallets.....yes we have Echo here.....

Best thing to use is a pallet wrecker bar. I found a really nice large wrecking bar with the magnet recently. I've already got about 10 others of all different sizes - all found with magnet (one of the most common tool dropped in the cut). The latest one is a big one, old hand forged thing about 5 foot long with a square section wedge at one end and a round at the other end. The best one I found was on the Thames foreshore a beautiful hand forged wrecking bar with a nice cranked levering end in square section about an inch and a half then turning to round and tapering to a blunt point. A real thing of beauty handmade by a skilled blacksmith. Again about 5ft long. I like wrecking bars. What I'd really like is a halligan bar
