I hate busting up pallets.
A good and quick way is using a decent punch drive the nail head all the way through the plank into the bearer or block. It's quicker to wack the nail in another 1/2 - 3/4" than try and drag 1 3/4" of nail back out of the piece it's hammered into.

If I'm burning them, then a bow saw with the right blade sorts them out quick enough, a jig saw if I'm feeling lazy.

I use an electric chain saw, but it does not help with your nail removal problem

Jigsaw and collect the nails from the grate. That's what I do if putting the wood in the stove on my holiday boat (Puffin stov with fixed grate) but nails always clog up the rotating riddler grate on my stove on the barge and as it is in 24/7 through winter its rather tricky to get them out.

stack them up on your cruiser stern so you can climb up high and get to look over the hedge.
