The quality of their service seems to be patchy, because they contract the work out to local people. I don't know but I wonder if you did find yourself in the situation of needing assistance, that it wouldn't be cheaper just to find the assistance locally. A phone call direct to the local boat yard rather than RcR cutting out the middle man.

As with any insurance, if it also furnishes peace of mind, it is a price worth paying.
I think someone on fairly short trips on their boat, can be confident that break downs are unlikely.
More long term trips and the insurance can be beneficial.
My gear box packed up at Anderton a couple of years ago. It was working fine until it packed up. RCR were fantastic.
An earlier occasion many years ago whilst changing the oil, I discovered an alternator belt was damaged. I foolishly didn't have a spare and there was nowhere I could get one. A phone call to RCR and one was delivered.
It's a personal choice, but I like having someone to call in extremes.

When we called them out on the Erewash I'm pretty sure the guy was one of their own (not a contractor) and the service was actually pretty good. That said that was a few years ago now so things may have changed.

But the thread is about the price odd-ness. Why am I paying £150 for 4 call-outs when 3 call-outs will cost just £65? Has no-one else had this kind of brochure thrown into their insurance policy envelope? are you complaining about people going off topic in a thread?
