It's really sad if there has been a fatality, robbo would know because he moors really close to there. Boaters I know on the Aire and Calder have already stated that the flood elevation scheme in leeds has made it more dangerous and not only at knostrop but also the river sections below seem to be running a lot faster. Which is logical if you think about it. Because all flood elevation schemes do is move the water from one place to another. I'm glad I haven't got a mooring at castlford.

Only time will tell I suppose.

There was a fatality the guy was called Webby they turned off the life support machine this morning. He used to be on the Humber Pride so we saw him once or twice a week Its a shame as he was a nice guy

Apparently the engine in the boat died when they were clearing debris from below the weir. The water pulled the boat too close to the wire causing it to fill and capsize. One guy managed to swim away, but the other was under the boat trapped by the force of water and lifejacket.

That is sad....accidents such as these could be preventable...I guess an investigation will reveal facts.

Why did the engine die? Would be interesting to see its service history. Who is responsible for its servicing? Spark plugs? Fuel ran out? Foxy shit happens and when it does it all depends on how the dice roll as to whether you get home for tea or not!! Not everything can be blamed on human error, accidents can and do happen when nobody is at fault

Not everything can be blamed on human error, accidents can and do happen when nobody is at fault these are perfectly valid questions that should be addressed (among many others) during an investigation. why do you assume that foxy is implying that somebody is at fault? I have been involved in several in-house accident investigations undertaken in accordance with corporate BP procedures where fatalities have occurred; unfortunately the root cause conclusion is nearly always the same - management deficiencies.

Or something came over the weir and got tangled in the prop? could be a branch that fell off a tree, boat sucked into weir [this is the safety boat so it was supposed to be there] = no sausage, mash with onion gravy that night sorry these things happen and the results arnt always what we want but that really is life
