br] Why is East London such a dump? Why don't the people who live there clean it up? Maybe because some people actually like living in an area where the streets are full of rubbish. It reminds them of "back home".

One of the comments from that: "East London in it's entirety is one huge slum! Drive through it & all you see is mile after mile after mile of rundown slum housing!" It does not say which 'nationality/race' the 'rogue landlord' is, neither does it state the nationality/race of those all shuck/shacked up together. One goes to work, another gets in the warm bed. Bed bugs, fleas, lice, rodents running unleashed. Why is East London such a dump? Why don't the people who live there clean it up? East London has always been a comparative dump. It's the same in any uk city due to the prevailing wind being from the West and most houses being built during the industrial revolution. Knobs upwind, plebs in the smog. True. Combine that with massive immigration and the prevailing buy to let wind currently blowing its the perfect ingredients for a shithole.

Methinks its a wind up... I take it you recognised the name, or at least thought the name a bit suspicious.

Knobs upwind, plebs in the smog. I remember you saying, and wondered if there were examples of it being the other way round...? Well, it's not a city, but the eastern side of Broadstairs, Kent is the posh side and the western side is where the council and industrial estates are, but that's more because there never has been any industry and the eastern side is coastal facing.

I'm amazed by the difference between Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Personally I prefer Ramsgate as I find Broadstairs too "precious" which I dislike.
Will take misses and kids to the new Wetherspoon's at Ramsgate next time we go.

I'm amazed by the difference between Broadstairs and Ramsgate. When the ferries were still running, we used to say "Ramsgate for the continent, Broadstairs for the incontinent".

Opposite Wetherspoons is the Belgian Bar, it's 100x better.

The Churchill at the top of the hill overlooking the Harbour was our choice of boozer when waiting for the easterlies to abate. Always had some good ales and views, mind you it was 10 years ago

"Should water pumps be pumping even if you have no taps on? Sometimes it shuts off .. I imagine once pressure has been achieved ... but sometimes constantly runs for a long time for what seems no reason?"

Rat ate a bit of hep2o pipe then legged it outside had a bit of a tummy ache so climbed into the top of the flue hoping it might be warm (rats are clever buggers) and died there due to indigestion complications, slipped down onto the dead bird which was already there so completely blocking the flue hence fire not working.
That would explain both problems. Or pipe burst due to freezing but I reckon the rat is more likely
Owner leaves boat unattended for too long and it gets squatted by wildlife.
