Reading London Boaters / NUG forums on FB etc there seems to be a steady increase in postings about boat break ins / petty vandalism plus some worrying posts about towpath attacks / muggings etc.
Anyone had any trouble with thieving scrotes trying to ransack the place or is it mainly London based moorers that are suffering?
Is the place, due to more n more vessels lining / mooring up, becoming easy targets for scrotes to have their way?
Are the police taking any action these reports do you know?

I suspect most victims would be lucky to get a crime number over the phone of course. Phil

Phil Dunno how it works for reporting crime, but would imagine a permanent addy with postcode would be needed to get anywhere with the police...can't imagine ' living on a boat between here & there' would really cut it with them? anyone know?

I take what I read on the likes of Facebook regarding crime with a massive dose of salt. If what is to believed about our area on the village FB page you would believe it was crime central, the simple fact is it isn't. Most of the utter crap that gets posted on there is regurgitated bull shit, and rumour mongering often posted by attention seeking morons with nothing better to do.

There has been a surge in boat breaks towards london. I've just cruised out, and put it down to boaters mooring in hot spots because there is nowhere else to go. Your not really out of the trouble spots until you get to Rickmansworth. We have cctv, and you can see the shits sizing the boat up, then realising a cameras on them. It's the dark evening's. The muggers and thieves use the shadows.

And do the police make any attempts to reign in the scrotes or is it left pretty much watch your own back?

I think it's largely a London thing and probably the increase is due to the dark evenings.

You dont need a perm address or any address for the Police to report your crime. Contact numbers are a help so they can keep in contact obviously but an address is not required.

I've not noticed lots of bicycle thefts going on at the moment. Between Bradford on Avon and hilperton.
My money is on the same their or group and it will stop as soon as it starts.
I presume now theft is a long running problem though and nothing new. Well it is here anyway.

The cynic in me wonders whether the publicised rise in boat beak ins is a convenient way of putting people off living on boats and leaving boats on the cut. Something I'm sure CRT and the government would like (all in the name of national security of course).

Anyone had any trouble with thieving scrotes Are the police taking any action? They'll have you listed now as a spreader of 'Hate Speech' as not all scrotes are 'thieving'. couple of dodgy Northern Europeans seen firtling about in S'o'rby marina yard a couple of weeks ago. Scrotes disguised as holiday makers. Shiny well oiled Buhks are at a premium.

When someone tried to break in to my boat on my home mooring a few years back, I phoned up the police and they asked if I lived on the boat as they treat it as a residential property. Had a couple of policemen around that evening to visit and a someone to check the day after the foot print that was nicely printed on the window. Also a phone call later in the week to check if I was okay, etc. This was West Yorkshire.

The function of the police is to prevent the ruling classes from being guillotined, not to protect the meagre possessions of the proletariat.
