I don't think this topic has been aired over here, just been playing on the other channel with my wooden spoon.
Do ecofans work? Discuss....... Nicely.....

When you say eco fans is this some sort of "football fan" type description for eco-warriors? I imagine most of them are trustafarians so probably don't -need- to work.

No idea....I don't own one and if I did it wouldn't do any good on my boat due to the position of my fire!
So I'm voting....
Don't know.
Oh shit that option isn't thereπ

We think they do. A friend of mine bought one for his house after seeing mine. He swears it works too.

Work as in blowing air about? - yes. Is this in any way helpful for anything? - I don't think so, the hot air circulates naturally anyway. I like to see it still turning when I get up in the morning though.

Who cares? Is another option missing from the poll.

Its an odd one really. Does anyone who has actually paid for an ecofan think that they don't work?
And if you haven't bought one how would you know if it works or not?
I have no experience of the devices but I'm sure they don't do anything.

As hot air rises and cold air from the floor warms itself up and replace the other hot air I would say that a natural circle of warm air will build up and the eco fan might spoil that? so maybe they are an expensive waste of time.................who knows but if people are reassured by them do I care

I've had two, the one on the boat came with it and I was sure it never made any difference what so ever.
The second one I bought for home purely as a bit of a laugh as a daft present for Jan after we had the stove fitted, sort of a nod back to our times on the boat if you like.
I still dont think it makes any difference what so ever though there is a debatable looking graphic on their web site which suggests they do, though of course they want to sell things so no doubt it would.
Answer to the OP, no idea if I'm honest.

Right i can input into this topic......initially i did not have ecofan and my heat detector constantly went off as all the heat from the wood burner rose en masse up the open plan stair case and set off the alarm which i whacked with a broom to dismantle....I then had a thought that just maybe having Rayburn and wood burner and no detector not terribly wise..so I goes out and buys a detector and eco fan with the thought that dispersing heat will prevent it from setting off the detector that I had to site in the same place......I made a mess of getting the other one down, in hindsight whacking with a broom not best plan. Now i hope you are all following this detailed explanation cos I'm setting out the facts..anyway the detector no longer alarms so in my humble opinion based on experiments the ecofan works...now i will vote.....

I've had 2 and paid for neither. Well done! Thanks. π The fact that both were left behind by the people who presumably paid for them may be a clue to how useful they are.

So you changed the detector but you think the reason the new one doesn't go off is the ecofan? Have you tried it without the fan?

Thanks. π The fact that both were left behind by the people who presumably paid for them may be a clue to how useful they are. Not necessarily. They could simply have been non-believers!
