I would suggest that these are QC failed units which Webasto wouldn't put their name on.
I remember going to a Sony warehouse in Staines years ago where there was a skip full of OK looking equipment including walkmans all of which had the lid ripped off or other deliberate damage. I took one out of the skip and it worked OK but the fast forward was faulty. Not a big deal but also not a saleable item so it's better to damage and bin it than to sell it and risk the manufacturer reputation. I made up a new lid with card and duck tape. That was before ebay.

If they can't even knock up a few sentences of non-comedy English then how good are they going to be at making a night heater?

If they can't even knock up a few sentences of non-comedy English then how good are they going to be at making a night heater? I was going to say the same. How on Earth can it be that they are too fucking lazy to find and ask someone who speaks English to have a run through and sort out that complete load of twaddocks? The Chinese simply don't have ethics in anything, do they? Bunch of robbers - and if it's not your cash they're trying to swipe off you it's your liver and kidneys. Chinese prison, anyone? HSBC bank - frauds and money launderers. Hit by enormous fines but still they go on. Still, you never see violent Chinese people in the same mould as British football thugs and 'Travellers', do you, so they get points from me for being friendly. Also I should like to visit China some day. (Even the Chinese themselves laugh about the shit products they turn out and the gullible fools that buy them. So, they're not stupid - just ruthless and immoral in the pursuit of money).Sounds rather like a number of UK banks, "legal" outfits, telecos etc to me. they just have better PR.
