Can someone tell me what he did, exactly? A KNIGHTHOOD? What about that last remaining Dambuster? Perhaps I'm out of order here but I would have thought an MBE a bit more appropriate.

No disrespect to Mo's achievements, but the awards system seems to fall further and further into the bounds of irrelevance each year.
Either that or I'm getting grumpier each year.
Nah, that can't be true.

Running (and not even from the law, wild animals or a jilted lover) And selling meat substitutes is a hard job and deserves a nice award our establishment can bestow upon a person. Blowing up a dam at night in the industrial heartland of Germany while being shot at from the ground and air must have been a piece of piss in comparison.

Knighthoods and awards get more Mick Mouse like every year..just like degree subjects.. I could have a good ole rant about some knighthoods but I won't .. Some really deserving folks get missed...

I get that mo was outstanding in his fields. But so are most farmers. If I was really good at my job will I get knighted? I don't mind the cbe, mbe and obe stuff but we should perhaps only have one person a year knighted. The bar should be so much higher.

Well he did a hell of a lot more than most people who get a knighthood. For example those many civil servants who just do their well paid jobs, retire with their exorbitant civil service pensions and get a shoulder clonk by Queenie’s sword into the bargain. Mo came from nothing and worked very very hard to become the best of the best. There might be people who deserve it more, but there are plenty who get it, who deserve it less. As to the dambuster, there were many thousands who committed acts of extreme bravery during WW2. But I think that just because you have lived longer than nearly all the rest is not justification for a knighthood when the others didn’t get one.

We must never forget.

At least Mo doesn't appear to be in Sir Jimmy Savile's league...

It's about remembering those that gave their ultimate sacrifice and that includes both all sides of all wars and all the civilian people all over the world whos only fault was living in the wrong place.
