Quite a difficult boat to survey given its location.
I would have thought it would make more sense to find somewhere closer which could handle it for docking (perhaps there isn't anywhere?) Get preliminary hull works sorted properly then move to Chatham for the real work.
It's an odd story this one.
Maybe there just isn't anywhere on the north side of the estuary that can handle it.

Up the Thames, yes either Duggans floating drydocks or the side slips at Cory's (?)old yard but can't think of anywhere else close for that size/weight
I don't think there is anywhere at Ipswich, all I can think of are lift out and I would think she is way too heavy

It's an interesting one to watch anyway.
Would be great if it does get sorted and can be seen steaming up to the pool of London. that really would be a nice thing to see.
I still want to get down to the estuary but it's mañana mañana for now. Maybe one day if I can lose the CBA!
Does look a lot more interesting than the upper Thames if perhaps slightly more challenging.

It is a severely elegant hull which would look very much at home on the French Riviera. Good luck to them.

Something bad happened to the bow and stern at some point which has spoilt it somewhat. Specially the stern. That's not going to be cheap to get back

Anybody willing to entertain the idea probably isn't short of a shilling or two. All the same, it looks like a good way to turn a big pile of cash into a small pile of cash.

Indeed. The bloke has obviously got a few quid it's just an interesting option on how to spend it. I wonder if there will be some sort of TV show out of it.
The Lady Doris, a completely different boat but coincidentally another Thonycroft craft, did not end up particularly well. Part of the Amazing Spaces show it was recently spotted by me amazingly sunk up near Oxford.
Even small boats can be money pits.
I mean how much would it actually cost to get that Llys Helig sorted and nice? It must be a ridiculous amount of cash. Really ridiculous.
These things do happen but that is one seriously big project.

Anyway. No updates on the old girl for a while. I wonder if a few of the previous TB comments could turn out to be quite accurate. I sometimes think there is quite a good pool of general boat knowledge here. To use a narrow boat term the back end does look well and truly dodgy. Scrap? One would hope not but sometimes you have to see the wood and avoid looking at the trees. www.facebook.com/llyshelig1922/I only put the facebook link up because the llyshelig.com won't load for me.

The move is still on, updated this week. It has been patched and had braces fitted. Someone even painted the funnel.

Presumably one needs to be logged in to Facebook to get the update. It won't show for me. I'm surprised if they tow it mid winter but to be fair it is a La Niña this year so all quite tame. It's definitely good if it gets done. The works to reinforce were done ages ago. There must have been a problem with MCA approval or insurance to delay it that much.

One of the pictures from when it arrived in Burnham on Crouch in the 90s. That stern really intrigues me. I don't think it's a fashionable update to an ageing yacht. I reckon it's a bodge up to repair a nackered stern perhaps from a collision or just a lot of corrosion. It would be enormously costly to put it back to the lovely canoe stern originally on the boat. That is just too ugly !

Actually looking again perhaps that stern section was added when it was "upgraded" by GL Watson as a way of supporting the large open upper stern deck. Some people like to look important and have things like outdoor jaccuzzis etc while having no taste or appreciation of aesthetics.
It could easily have just been done to the customers requirements. "I want more sun deck and I have the money".
It looks like the essential underwater swim area is/was actually still there.

IF it is actually the same boat I just don't understand why anyone would want to alter the incredibly classy and we'll executed stern end. It's so sexy in this old picture. The real thing. There is no accounting for taste !
