At £1.99 or whatever I just buy a Christmas Pud, but I like making the cake. I made mine last weekend, probably not cooked in the centre but it's the thought that counts. This year I'm going to have a bash at making the marzipan.
I hate Christmas but I bloody love the cake, mince pies, port and Brandy bit.
Do you make your own stuff or buy it in?

My Nan was born in about 1890 and she use to make Christmas cake in February, keep it under the bed, and regularly stir the dust which settled on it into the mix. She said that everybody did that.
I won't be making a cake but I might buy one from Aldi if I can be arsed to go there.

Then make it into a super-saturated sugar solution with a dash of milk.

For forget to make another and drop it of at the other side of the marina.

I'll be avoiding xmas cake again this year, as I have done for about 30 yrs. I'll not be able to avoid the 3 hours boiled sprouts and cabbage though (sometimes life is tough).
If things go well over the next two weeks (house sale is rather 'interesting at the moment') I might treat myself to cooking my own favourite cake, just a simple light fruitcake with a sugar glazed coating - if I do the cake will be all mine!

I don't like any of these sweet things much. I prefer to eat lemons and drink bitter.

If you want to pour brandy over the cake and set it aflame, make sure there are no gas leaks first: (gas company covering its tracks at high speed?) www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5166745/Gas-explosion-injures-two-Leicester.htmlFrom the BBC ----- "The fire service said no fire had been reported and no smell of gas" - on the other hand, being Leicester, with Christmas coming... perhaps it was nothing to do with gas at all. Point of order, it's pudding one sets on fire rather than cake. Unless one is grilling it.

(without the hats you can also make little pies like this, such as bacon and broccoli and chanterelle/mushroom sauce, which are great with a couple of boiled potatoes and baked beans). Mmmmm..... A pie without a lid is called .............

Back on track... I made (first time ever) and fitted (seems a suitable term) almond paste to my cake today. As you were...
