That is the problem after snow, when it's all compacted and frozen solid.
We had no snow but minus 5 all night and not looking like it's going rise.
Heating still on for the first time in two years.
The joys of a flat.
Just done the school run. Loaf of ice about here. The kids letter much skated to school.

Plenty of thick ice here, and some of it on the inside of my window frames. Just off for a lovely walk to work.

Some say you shouldn't move your boat in ice for fear of removing blacking and vulnerability to grp boats.has anyone witnessed a crushed grp boat or is it all a load of crap.

well, the canal has a slight layer finally (the flood gates to the river are shut thus allowing it) I had a bit of a lay in though as we've been ill the last few days, and in the saloon it was 21.7 and outside minus 7,5 at about quarter past 8... the back cabin wasn't too cold though when i went to start the engine to top up the batteries - staying at 19 over night

The fear for GRP boats is an ice sheet pushed into a GRP boat can crack or pierce it's hull, though I've never seen it myself, but then not many boats move when the ice is thick and strong enough to do damage.

River Nene and mill pool frozen in Titcmarsh Northants.
Amazingly the raw water intake pipes still had water in them despite me disconnecting them a couple of weeks ago. Now fully drained thankfully!
-5.5°c this morning following a snow bomb (bloody nonsense!) On Sunday that seemed to cause utter chaos.

On Sunday that seemed to cause utter chaos. is 'snow bombs' the new descriptive terminology for snow fall? are we now going to get 'rain bombs, wind bombs, fog bombs?'.... I can just imagine the weather forecasts....
