I like snakes. I suppose people who have not handled snakes may find them a bit scary but they aren't a problem really. Obviously there are some big snakes which may present a health and safety problem. I have handled grass snakes and corn snakes when I was a boy as we lived on a country estate which had grass snakes in the gardens and one of my sisters had corn snakes in a vivarium. They are impressive creatures (not oily at all ) I'll never forget when my dad fed a live frog to a captive grass snake. I was about 8 or 9. It consumed the frog whole then regurgitated it shortly afterwards by which time the frog was dead. apparently this regurgitation was the result of human interaction. The snake was not relaxed enough to consume the frog, which was its usual food, in a relaxed manner. I hate humans
